open a terminal and use the following commands in green
su
to get root privleges to edit system files and so forth
nano /etc/apt/sources.list
to use a editor in the terminal that will let you edit that file

or....if the distros you install create the standard (debian standard anyway) symlinks /initrd.img and /vmlinuz then just use those in sources.list and you dont even need to worry when you install a different distro, although you may forget which partition has which OS on it... title partition hda6 ...

if you truly wanted a different filesystem then you can edit
/usr/lib/linuxmint/mint-debian-installer/mint-debian-installer.py
and change the mkfs command and the fstab part before running xinstallerx

I don't know what you troll about, Yes you do....2006 wasnt that long ago... MEPIS was audited by FSF and declared in compliance. Sure....after making changes to be compliant. That doesn't mean it was always so. I think you made some LiveCDs, do you provide sources for them or you point to Debian? ...
