Re: [O/S] xz backdoor in debian stable?

According to Debian security announcement no: https://lists.debian.org/debian-security-announce/2024/msg00057.html Right now no Debian stable versions are known to be affected. Compromised packages were part of the Debian testing, unstable and experimental distributions, with versions ranging from 5...

Missing bin file for amdgpu

I have gotten my self newer laptop ASUS TUF A16 FA617XS. Using Bookwork with backported kernel gets wifi and keyboard working, but from time to time it tends to freeze and won't wake up from sleep. First clue would be missing amdgpu binary amdgpu/gc_11_0_2_mes_2.bin. Have seen others mentioning it f...

Re: [Solved] Apt-file search for multiple branches

@Aki
Script would do fine, just that I mostly use it for stable branch so no need to check other branches in those cases.
Also search can return a lot of matches. Abused example would be searching for "apt"

Code: Select all

apt-file search apt
Which is why I went with alias in the end.

Re: [Software] ACPI errors at boot

You can use pastebinit and just paste URL here.
https://paste.debian.net/
You can do same directly from command line using pastebinit
https://packages.debian.org/bookworm/pastebinit

Re: [Discussion] Straw that broke the camel's back

While on college there were some Win 10 updates that messed up my system. I don't remember what, but it started acting odd and annoyed me so much that I installed Ubuntu 18.04 on it. Somehow it worked, found alternatives for what I needed and I was done with it. To my surprise printer started workin...

Running

Code: Select all

sddm --example-config
Should print default configuration to stdout. Which you can then save and modify as needed.

Re: Issue with openfortivpn after upgrading to Bookworm

Hello, Server I am connecting to uses outdated configuration that is not in my control. It used to work on Debian 11, but now I am unsure as to why it is failing to connect. Is there a way for me check what could be the cause of it? Looking around haven't found much of such issue on openfortivpn it ...

Re: Setting up openfortivpn with Network manager

The connection opened by openfortivpn itself (without network manager) is usually the default connection and therefore the traffic is forwarded to the VPN by default. You are absolutely right. Seems my issue was DNS not working. As I was able to connect with ip itself. Will mark post as solved. Was...

Re: Setting up openfortivpn with Network manager

Hello,
Looking more around there doesn't seem a way to add those two options to NetworkManager config file for openfortivpn.

I am able to connect using openfortivpn it self (not over NetworkManager). But I am at a loss how to then forward traffic through new connection.

[SOLVED] Setting up openfortivpn with Network manager

Hello everyone, I am having some difficulties setting up VPN for work. We use forticlient for VPN so I need to set it up. Connecting using openfortivpn is possible. It creates the tunnel and I am given IP address 170.30.10.2. And it creates new interface 4: ppp0: <POINTOPOINT,MULTICAST,NOARP,UP,LOWE...

Re: [Installation] Failed to raise network interfaces

Ifupdown doesn't usually manage wifi devices unless manually set up. Failed to raise network interface message should be about ethernet connections. It is harmless message but can try to create empty file in /etc/network/interfaces.d and it should hopefully solve the error message. But it shouldn't...

Re: Verification of a downloaded app

If package is up to date, it should be enough to run
dpkg -V pkgname
To check integrity of binaries and its configuration files, compared to repo ones. Unless metadata in dpkg for that package was changed for some reason.

Re: Verification of a downloaded app

Another thing you could do is use dpkg itself. To verify integrity of packages
dpkg -V
Will check content of packages against md5sum. It will show you system configuration files that were changed manually as well. It works same as debsum.
To check if package is missing any metadata use
dpkg -C

You might have more luck with using wine on flatpak. It helps separate packages from system and prevents breaking,.

Re: Journalctl entries bother me

You don't have to worry about number of kernels, system will keep 2 newest ones, and rest are auto removable. So it is only need to run sudo apt autoremove Such is done in case newest kernel is not playing well with hardware, so you can fall back to older working one. As can be seen in kernel list, ...

Yes. Thanks.
Did that solve part of the problem? I have checked and only ctefx.bin is mentioned in there.
