Re: New Anti-Spam measures
Over 17,000 actual, honest-to-gawd spam attempts per day ???? Seems unlikely. Well, spam "hits". Bots will generally go throguh a process of a few pages before the spam is actually posted (register, update profile, post spam) etc etc - the smart bots will check whether their action is suc...

Re: New Anti-Spam measures
Hello, you have a very interesting discussion about spam prevention here. ... I'm the MOD author of Advanced Block MOD for phpBB3. It's a very effective solution for preventing spam with blacklists. It reduces false positives to a minimum. In my experience it reduces it to Zero. With Advanced Block...

Re: How to renew expired keys?
Try a different mirror. So, the key that you've got wasn't shown in the error message. Generally, you'd be able to get the key updated by running something like sudo apt-key adv --keyserver pgp.mit.edu --recv-key KEYID But I can't tell you the exact command as the key you listed isn't shown in the ...

Re: New Anti-Spam measures
I foresee many people, current and potential Debian users, in India and China not being able register, because of "ethnic IP banning." I have not experimented yet, but I would not be surprised if my IP address is considered spam. I have a bitch of a time trying to access sites outside Chi...

Re: please add me to your list
Hi there, Just had a little look into why you're being flagged as a spammer. You're currently using a Dynamic IP handed out from Vodafone India. This IP has previously been caught being used by an automatic spam-bot (it got caught in what is known as a honeypot). This will only affect registration o...

This quote only stated what Saul has already said here. The fact he said it when he first joined up was the point.dasein wrote:Hmmm.... no emails/PM to Mez for me.

Re: No more 'greens'!
Rather indifferent about the staff changes, but I do have one question.... Didn't Craigevil and saulgoode both quit at least once? Why were they made red when the quit? Oh wait...they must have recanted....I'm pretty sure though Saulgoode has posted within the last 6 months reiterating his resignat...

I can possibly dig out one of them (have a search in debian-project). And maybe another (if it was a logged IRC channel). The other was done via private mail so no link.sgcb wrote:Links for the curious?Mez wrote:DSA have on at least 3 occasions tried to shut this board down.

Now you're back and you're renaming threads, moderating, moving stuff - when it's not needed. Actually - THIS is the only thread I've split out. To allow a frank discussion regarding me - and not to hijack the other thread. It's the right place for it to be. Here. In the "Forum Feedback" ...

Re: New Anti-Spam measures
Just out of curiosity, I looked to see what these new anti-spam measures looked like. On the initial signup screen at least, there is a second "anti-spam" question. Unfortunately, it looks like it'll prove to be just exactly as easy to spoof via script as the old "what is the middle ...

Re: No more 'greens'!
Your opinion is not without merit, however, there are logistical reasons that favor a more incremental approach to elevation of duties within the Staff. At each level of administration -- Spamhunter, Moderator, and Administrator -- additional powers are granted and increased potential of causing ir...

Split this off as it wasn't relevant to the original thread. I've also given it a more relevant title.
