Good to read that you got a game plan figured out.
I bought a PCIe adapter for 2 NVme's a while back only to discover that it didnt have boot capabilities. I had to reorder another adapter instead.

Re: USB timeouts/errors for all devices
Have you tried taking your hub down in the basement to the computer and plugging it in with a regular passive usb cable to see if it works? Also have you tired plugging a usb device directly into the usb port of the computer in the basement?

Re: Personal VPN reccomendations?
https://github.com/Nyr/openvpn-install
I have done this in the past and used Nyr's script for setting up a VPN. It works very good. I might recommend 'wireguard' as it does seem faster than openvpn type setups.

That's why they have more informed people making decisions in places like NASA. NASA's Perseverance rover on Mars, for example, is powered by a 233Mhz PowerPC 750 CPU. The same single core chip that powered Apple's iMac G3 in 1998. Of course NASA's technicians weren't looking to run physics simulat...

Re: Firewalld: how to apply zones on interfaces ?
I use 'firewall-config' on my server. Its a GUI frontend for the firewall. I have two nic cards. One is for the internet connection and is in zone 'external'. The other nic is for the local lan and is in zone 'internal'. Then on the zones I can assign ipmasq on the external zone and open up ports 80...

I had a client ask me about what a good virus software for his windows 10 would be. I responded: "Worrying about your antivirus software is like worrying about a leaky faucet on the Titanic". M$ sure does make a lot of money selling off everyone's information and then charging them a month...

Re: [Software] System stop responding when I plug in any USB
Most of the time what helps when trouble shooting is to watch the kern.log in real time while plugging in the usb stick. sudo tail -f /var/log/kern.log My theory on usb sticks is - The first run of usb sticks are really fast and word gets around (with reviews on shopping sites) about how good they a...

Re: Another strange behavior with ASUS mainboards.
I have the same issue (feature?) with my Asus Prime X370 pro board. In fact, I just purchased an Asus 'Tuff-gaming'-plus B550 Board and it does the same thing. It acts like its booting up twice. Does it whether its plugged in or not. Just shut it down and start it and the Asus bios splash screen app...

Re: Folder permissions
In any case, do this:
Note the original permissions on it are 755 in case something breaks.
Code: Select all
cd /usr/lib/gimp/2.0
Code: Select all
sudo chmod 766 plug-ins

Re: [Solved] “Timed out waiting for device dev-disk-by” but can’t find uuid in fstab
I will run into something similar sometimes when cloning a VM. The device UUID will change. So, I always tick the box for preserving IDs and such during cloning. Glad you got it fixed. I assumed the "None" means its not encrypted. Humm..

Re: [Software] “Timed out waiting for device dev-disk-by” but can’t find uuid in fstab
Im not into crypt stuff. However, What I would do is backup the file and change the UUID of that old drive with the UUID of the new one.
So, Remove 7a23987f-1337-4695-95b5-0b8369286b93 and replace it with the UUID of the new drive.

Re: [Installation] Buster to Bookworm Upgrade issue
The carnage is real on this one. I would really just make sure you have a backup of the /etc directory and any other important stuff and just reinstall. Normally what I do with servers is I run virtualbox for my major/important installs. Things like nextcloud or invoice and billing software. This wa...

Re: [Installation] Buster to Bookworm Upgrade issue
I have done about 10 of these upgrades just recently and I can echo what @CwF says. You upgrade buster to bullseye and then bullseye to bookworm. I have found that going from buster to bullseye you will run into missing packages. If I remember correctly, This is because some packages have changed or...

Re: Caja doesn't show thumbnails of smartphone and tablet files
Let me ask this - When the phone is plugged in to the usb port does it recognize it as a block storage device or something else. Reason I ask is because I have read that if the phone is not recognized as a block device it will not load thumbnails. My android samsung is recognized as a block device a...
