I had other problems running the debian insaller from the cd image. Is the debian installer available from the live boot?

Re: debian x86 install failed - bootloader-config

we're getting a little off topic here - I posted a couple of images for good reason,
someone declined to view them "because javascript". I reposted the images.

I'd still like suggestions how to work around the bootloader error.

Re: debian x86 install failed - bootloader-config

Pastebin useless, it won't let me upload an image unless I pay them.
Tiring of the chase, I just uploaded to my own site.

Re: information about failed installation

I've teased out a little more information about my situation. The device in question is an old insignia laptop which needs "nonfree" drivers. I'm working around that during the installation process by plugging in a wifi dongle, which works. At the point where the installer wants to use a n...

this was debian-live-10.7.0-i386-cinnamon+nonfree.iso

a few in my current adventure.

more information from a failed install

one of the choices in the installation menu is "check the integrity of the cdrom"
nice idea, but this is a stick install, and trying the check anyway just complains
about the absence of the cdrom.

information about failed installation

running the current installer I got to "installation failed" and went back to the main installer menu. There were three options listed under save debug logs 1) floppy 2) web 3) mounted file system #1 - gimmie a break. they're extinct. #2 - it says a web server was started, but no host is a...

Re: debian x86 install failed - bootloader-config

Here's the result of booting the current live cd, and running the install item from the desktop. Note that no network is set up at any point up to this message. Also note this is on an old x32 laptop. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1WtuRoJ7wM-Dc3Z98ESwcIGeZKsJm58DS/view?usp=sharing and as you can s...

Re: debian x86 install failed - bootloader-config

That would be great if I could get to any kind of shell, which I can't. So why can't you use the rescue mode then? And why do you keep ignoring suggestions that relate to it? Are you trolling? Maybe we're referring to different things as rescue mode. The rescue mode I have seen is one of the boot o...

Re: debian x86 install failed - bootloader-config

I'd rather boot the installer in rescue mode, chroot into the install system and investigate the bootloader installation failure. With BIOS/legacy boot : Make sure separated /boot and /usr are mounted, then grub-install --force /dev/<internalbootdisk> With UEFI boot : Make sure separated /boot, /bo...

Re: debian x86 install failed - bootloader-config

There are no incantations or magic. The installer has a rescue mode which allows to reinstall the boot loader (but that will presumably fail until the failure cause is removed) The install, in keeping with the traditional unix philosophy, rates 1 out of 10 on the friendliness scale. When the instal...

Re: getting full functionality from Insignia notebook

If you are using debian 10, you shouldn't have kernel 5.9 :S Can you copy what you have in cat /etc/apt/sources.list And what you get from cat /etc/issue As stated, the system isn't bootable. The source for this installation was a Kali linux image. This is all an experiment anyway, so I'm rebuildin...

Re: debian x86 install failed - bootloader-config

until it is installed, the system is not bootable Wrong. The system can be booted with any other bootloader. For instance multiboot setups require only one boot loader, not one per system. if the installation fails in any way, you have to redo the entire installation. Wrong again. You can finish th...

The step of connecting to WIFI during install seems on...

Re: getting full functionality from Insignia notebook

Adventure Ho! sudo apt upgrade downloaded 2GB of stuff and took an hour installing. At about 50% of the install it crashed, and is now unbootable - some kind of kernel panic. It looks like it was in the process of installing a kernel upgrade - in recovery mode I can see some but not all of the files...
