Re: Updates

Probably you have unattended-upgrades package active. There was a security upgrade for systemd and the kernel on July 20. Check if you have the current version of systemd and you will know your upgrades are happening. It should be systemd 241-7~deb10u8 . apt list --installed systemd Learned somethi...

Re: Forum and server updates - Moving, fixes, and new admins.

Right... It's changed again since I posted that snippet. There was only one change since it was posted, I mentioned it directly: ... and most recent account deletion requests. Either way it's a good idea to view the guidelines every once in a while, while this is a major change to it it's unlikely ...

Re: Forum and server updates - Moving, fixes, and new admins.

I seriously didn't understand what you just said. Yes it was very much needed, but that entire section has been updated for more specific items: The following WILL get your post EDITED or REMOVED and may have your account locked: ... The following might get your post/thread LOCKED: ... The followin...

Re: Forum and server updates - Moving, fixes, and new admins.

Fort those who can't be bothered fishing around in the wayback machine, the main change to the forum guidelines (besides minor reorganisation / rewording) is the addition of this section: The following WILL have your account warned and banned: - Several direct interactions from the moderation team ...

Re: It's now a Black Screen of Death

@ donald : of course I have checked that You are a Debian developer before I wrote my previous post - that was just a little "game" - I just wanted to see what will happen - I'm sure that You know that human reactions are showing more than they would normally like to express. But actually...

Re: Forum and server updates - Moving, fixes, and new admins.

The Forum Guidelines have been updated, while not much has changed in modernizing them it would be wise to be familiar with them: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=149781

Re: It's now a Black Screen of Death

(...) Microsoft, despite how you feel, has put its face forward and has been a sponsor for Debian Conferences and distribution. While you may not have been aware of that, now you are. While risking to be banned, I want to repeat my question about MS sponsoring the DebConf, Mr donald : The registry ...

Re: It's now a Black Screen of Death

You don't have to like or agree with Microsoft or any other distribution, because well Linux is the best one right? I've never mentioned any other distribution - Debian is my base OS. I do realize that Gnu/Linux is far from perfection - however, the difference is that I can control my OS, while MS ...

Re: New Update Is Counter-Productive

I was responding to many people at the same time, it had to be clear which is for which. For god's sake you can't even make a consensus on what triggers the edit banner. Understandable, we do not have a mulit-quote system in place. I think at this point this thread has run its natural course. The e...

The consensus seemed to gravitate to the older full screen style, so we changed it recently. @esp7 some of the other styles are still available if you like one of them better.

Re: New Update Is Counter-Productive

I do no social networking. I don't own a cell phone. So I'm probably more sensitive than most to the appearance of this intrusive "feature". Why? Because as Eben Moglen noted in his presentation at re:publica in 2012, it teaches the machine (and their uberlords) about YOU! IOW . . . it is...

I disagree and I think it should not be shown. either users have the ability to edit posts or they don't, which I prefer they don't, but granting them this ability then showing information about edits is wrong. Thread information hover, if you hover over a thread the first few words of the post will show up in a preview window.

Just trying these out, lets see if they affect server load.
