Re: User/group permission change not reflected immediately

Re: For how many years have you been using GNU/Linux?

I was running I think Windows 98 at home and wanted to upgrade to the newest Windows which was Millennium Edition. I want to be polite to the efforts put behind that software that to this day no one has anything positive to say about, and which MS doesn't seem to talk about . That being said, I...

Re: Forum and server updates - Moving, fixes, and new admins.

I just wanted to post a quick thank you!! I had been trying unsuccessfully to register an account last December, and after several attempts, just gave up for the time being. Seeing that updates had been made, I decided to give it another go today, and can report that the registration process was mu...

Re: Notifications check box

I think once you are on that page it marks them as viewed. You can also check them off in the notification area.... I have to wait to get one to show you. Ahhh. I thought I could select them individually. Apparently I can select either Mark ALL or Unmark All. Yes, it seems all or nothing. Here is t...

Re: Repositories for New Debian 11 Release

Dear All, If I understood well, debian 11 is about to become the new debian stable soon. This Saturday is the release date. :) https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2021/07/msg00003.html I certainly want to upgrade to the new debian stable in a painless way. Here is my source list (if ther...

Re: Notifications check box

On a whim I changed the style to breeze. Not only did I not care for the look, the check boxes didn't work with that style. Do you have a recommendation @donald ? I use the proDFGX stlye, 4D696B65 is correct AllanStyle-SUBSILVER is the default. Same thing here. Marking read does nothing and no way ...

Re: Sadly amusing

It's the state of things, as ticojohn mentioned it is a desire for instant gratification and results which are prevalent in society right now. People use google as a guide for the complex installation of software and then continue to use google to research each error as it occurs whilst ignoring the...

Re: Uptime Championships

It is easy to get false results from uptime. I did it the first time by accident, the bios battery of my pc had died, I used ntpdate-debian to get right time. After that uptime was many years. I was wondering when someone would point that out , for now lets use the honor system and 'inxi -Fxz'...

Re: Pinning kernel

Another method is to use /etc/apt/preferences or /etc/apt/preferences/anyname I believe the syntax would be: Package: linux-image-$whatever Pin: release * Pin-Priority: -1 To pin a specific version of a package, should not the priority be the highest possible ie. 1001? I run a Liquorix kernel and j...

Re: Pinning kernel

How will you deal with security updates in the kernel. Will you keep building custom kernels every time? I generally run a kernel ahead or jump to the most current: uname -a Linux localhoster 5.10.0-0.bpo.3-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 5.10.13-1~bpo10+1 (2021-02-11) x86_64 GNU/Linux This gives me, for my ne...
