Re: The network manager is missing in Debian 11 LXDE. How to connect to a wireless network?
It seems Wicd was indeed removed from Debian 11 bullseye as pointed by 4D696B65 , I suggest you use nmtui instead, another semi-graphical tool # Become root $ su # Install nmtui (the package itself is called network-manager) $ apt-get install network-manager # Launch it by typing in terminal $ nmtui...

Re: The network manager is missing in Debian 11 LXDE. How to connect to a wireless network?
There is no GUI to connect to a wireless network. I don't have wired connection at the moment, so I have to use wi-fi Install wicd (a GTK graphical network manager application) # Become root $ su # Install Wicd $ apt-get install wicd # Launch Wicd $ wicd-gtk Once you've installed and launched Wicd ...

Where to find Debian 10 ISO?
Debian 11 Bullseye was released some days ago, the Debian project maintainers claim that due to bandwidth issues and in order to free some server space they can only keep the ISOs of the latest release, meaning that they delete all the older releases whenever a new release comes out. I found some co...

Re: Leaving systemd...
:) a curious question... what is it with systemd you don't like so you want to leave it? Just little curious nothing more. :) It's probably the biggest argument in the history of Linux, be glad you missed it. It's basically old school vs new school and the whole debate should just be consigned to t...

Re: Leaving systemd...
Given the nature of the distro I suspect it attracts people with more technical skill than interpersonal, and likely little patience for new users. You're right, but in my case I didn't ask any technical questions, I suggested some changes to be made in the website and some information to be added ...

Re: Leaving systemd...
Just came from Void Linux IRC, what a punch of disrespectful ignorant lying pigs. To anyone looking for a sane community where you can ask questions and have them answered stay away from Void Linux, unless you're a sick man or woman who wants to be part of a school gang and thinks you're elite becau...

Re: Issues with shutdown and fans/ventilators since installing of new program
A bug was opened and a discussion was made. Take a look. https://debbugs.gnu.org/cgi/bugreport.cgi?bug=49878 DISCLAIMER: I know the bug report wasn't properly written, that's because when I sent my message to bug-gnu-emacs (at) gnu.org I thought there was another person at the other end, I didn't kn...

Re: Issues with shutdown and fans/ventilators since installing of new program
I doubt that installing Emacs from source can cause an issue like yours, there are some known issues that users may encounter [1] but these are all Emacs-related, nothing system-related. Indeed you must have upgraded something even if unintentionally. Anyway some applications has an uninstall script...

Re: Leaving systemd...
@steve I appreciate you trying to help me and the alternatives & information you provide, I will utilize that info, but please don't speak to people like that. He has a point, because as far as I recall back when systemd was still a new thing I tried to escape by switching to distros that promis...

Leaving systemd...
I'm considering switching distros from Debian to another distro that doesn't run on systemd, maybe I will choose a distro with runit, still not sure. Can anyone tell me what are the major most expected problems that I'm gonna face as a desktop user (not operating a server) after this transition? Res...

Re: Delaying a startup app
I have seen videos where Debian has a store, but it was on Gnome, is that strictly for Gnome? I have yet to see a store for MATE :? I normally install the Debian installer where it offers all the DE's. These app stores are known to be buggy I really don't recommend 'em. Anyway here are your options...

Re: Removing Firefox-ESR
You can't completely remove Firefox, it's like a system package, the same goes for LibreOffice, you will most likely end up with a semi-broken system due to losing many essential dependencies, or you will face issues the next time you try to install anything new. Gnu/Linux uses a dependency ecosyste...

Re: Delaying a startup app
Why put a command like that if it's going to wipe a person's system? To show the difference between storing a file and executing a command? There should have been a disclaimer right along side of it in red/bold because some people may have not noticed the bottom or just read part of the reply. extr...

I was responding to many people at the same time, it had to be clear which is for which. For god's sake you can't even make a consensus on what triggers the edit banner.

We can highlight that this is not a new feature Yes it is, I was browsing the forum a couple of days ago and it wasn't there. John then decides to troll and edits the original post That's why I said if someone is abusing edits to manipulate others then moderators should take action. So between the ...
