Likely your machine is going into sleep/suspend mode after a while, and it is not working properly for you.
Check all the 'Power Manager' settings, and make sure to set:
'Put to sleep after' = Never

Re: Live USB boot not working with Windows 11 / UEFI
Hello, I suggest to check that "Fast startup" is disabled in Windows 11, AND in BIOS (if there is such a setting). Fully check all BIOS settings. Then try boot USB again.
You could also try hitting 'F9' on boot, then select USB as device to boot.

Re: Is there an DE that will show root in the file manager?
Hi Augie, this can be done easily on Xfce desktop, using the default file manager 'Thunar'. Open thunar, then go: MENU > Edit > Configure custom actions... Add a new custom action (+) Name: Open as Root Command: pkexec thunar %f Icon: Select a nice icon Click on 'Appearance Conditions' tab (top) Se...

Re: sata5 crypt
Ok, that is what I suspected. Try the USB, then, the next step will be to get into BIOS to try a couple of things. Bring up your BIOS settings and make note of all the settings - so you can revert settings if things get worse. Browse the BIOS settings and look for an entry: Fast Boot - Enabled chang...

Re: sata5 crypt
Firstly, check the BIOS settings thoroughly to make sure all are ok. Next, do you know for sure that the CD/DVD/USB are truly bootable? Test on another machine and see if they work to successfully boot. If the install disks are good, use them to boot the Dell server, after first disconnecting the ha...

Re: Laptop won't wake from sleep (intermittent)
Sad to hear. As I'm no expert with these type of issues, I could only glean clues which helped solve it for me, which took months - it's been faultless for weeks now. I would watch the power and hard-drive LEDs when going to sleep, and it looked to me like the failures where occuring because of some...

Re: [Software] Best software for a backup server
I cast my vote for 'rsync'... Rsync is the best backup software I have ever used. Probably the best software I have ever used - for stability, reliability, and always getting the job done. I use rsync for all essential backups, including files at home, and server files. Provided the command is confi...

Re: Laptop won't wake from sleep (intermittent)
Hi, your situation has similarities to mine. Try changing that first parameter (keep the other two), update-grub and reboot. Replace this parameter: pcie_aspm=force With this: pci=pcie_bus_perf Command: update-grub Reboot. Then test again - do several suspends a day, as many as you like, to see if i...

Re: Laptop won't wake from sleep (intermittent)
OK. I suggest adding some kernel parameters which may help. Edit file (as root): /etc/default/grub Add the 3 parameters in the line, as shown below: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="pcie_aspm=force nohibernate=1 acpi=copy_dsdt ..." Save the file, then issue command as root: update-grub Reboot, ...

Re: Laptop won't wake from sleep (intermittent)
Hi Nick, if you have no ACPI errors, you are doing well. The 'dmesg' will provide clues to potential hardware/firmware issues.
Can you post also the output of:

Re: Laptop won't wake from sleep (intermittent)
Hi Nick, I had similar problems and tried many things, now its finally fixed. Here are some things to check first. Check what mode/s of sleep are supported on your system, with this command: cat /sys/power/mem_sleep Mostly this problem stems from ACPI issues due to buggy BIOS (Windows-centric) imple...

Re: [Solved] Suspend/Resume Kernel issues (6.1.0-13-amd64)
This includes all changes in Debian bookworm-backports kernels, which is rather a slog to read: https://metadata.ftp-master.debian.org/changelogs//main/l/linux/linux_6.5.10-1~bpo12+1_changelog The package I search for at packages.debian.org is linux-source-X.X, which for your goal is linux-source-6...

[Solved] Suspend/Resume Kernel issues (6.1.0-13-amd64)
I am posting this for the benefit of anyone still having similar issues. Any comments, feedback, suggestions are welcome. Since the recent kernel update (6.1.0-13-amd64), my system was having intermittent issues: Suspend/resume, resumed with a non-responsive black screen. Suspend/resume, the audio v...

Oida I'm sure this post will solve your problem. First option, if you just need to read ebooks, get rid of Windows and use a Linux ebook reader instead: # apt install fbreader If you have to run Windows 10, be aware that Windows Updates and Windows Defender will consistently chew up all resources av...

Re: Errors while updating system or install new packages Debian 12 (Solved sort of)
I noticed the error after recent upgrade of linux-image-6.1.0-9-amd64 to linux-image-6.1.0-10-amd64. Even after killing raspi-firmware (Random_Troll directions), the new image kept trying to take, but always with errors (as described in this thread). I finally solved it by using Synaptic to remove l...
