Re: [Installation] Can't shutdown or reboot from XFCE on a new install
Excellent! May I ask, confirmed how? Suppose I want to run the same test vis-a-vis a different desktop, say, LXDE (presumably not very popular, as I hardly ever see it mentioned on the Forum). Sure, it wasn't super scientific, the process that I used was this: 1. Starting with a minimal install in ...

Re: [Installation] Can't shutdown or reboot from XFCE on a new install
As a test, I did full install without a network connection to a flash drive (accomplished by sandboxing in Virt-Manager). Tested both the Standard Installer and Calamares, i.e., ran the test twice. As far as I can tell, nothing is missing. In both tests, the full install drive worked fine once give...

Re: Debian 11&12 install does not have default gateway route?
My conclusion so far is that the installer uses a different dhcp client that the installed distro, and the 'network-manager' package is absent when the desktop environment is not installed, but present when GNOME is selected (although, in this case, the dhcpclient is not running - how can the syste...

I believe that you can edit this file to turn off hiding users:
/usr/share/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/01_debian.conf
/usr/share/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/01_debian.conf

Re: [Solved] XFCE4 Screensaver
The task selection in the debian installer installs one display manager per DE. So if you pick gnome it will install GDM, and if you pick XFCE then it will install lightdm. It sounds like you picked both gnome and XFCE during the install process. Could that be the case? When you picked XFCE did you ...

Re: Bookworm XFCE: Screen locker configuration
You can switch back to lightdm by using the following commmand as root:
It should prompt you to pick which display manager to use as default.
If you want to read up on display managers, here is a wiki article:
https://wiki.debian.org/DisplayManager
Code: Select all
# dpkg-reconfigure lightdm

Re: Bookworm XFCE: Screen locker configuration
According to the package description of light-locker, it requires lightdm to work, that is probably why light-locker has a hard dependency on lightdm:

Re: upgrade method.
FYI, if you are looking for an alternative to using grub, systemd-boot might be an option. It is simpler than grub, not sure how it compares to lilo though, I haven't ever used lilo. It is also limited to only supporting EFI systems. The systemd-boot package in bookworm auto configures itself during...

Yes, normally during the xfce install the xfce4-terminal package gets installed.
