Re: Help with Discover Error!
Since /etc/apt/sources.list.d/oxen.list is the file in the error message, you should post the contents of that file.

Re: recommend monochrome laser printer for home
From the perspective of 'over the years' experience I have a tendency to lean toward Brother or HP for printers. Epson is a bit of a question mark. Canon I generally recommend not getting.
In terms of what is available today, I am not up on the current models, so can't give specific recommendations.

Re: External DVD/CD player, which?
If you are talking reliability with encrypted DVDs specifically there is this situation.... https://www.videolan.org/support/faq.html#DVDS If they were different drives, but same brand, could be the maker of that brand doing things in a poor quality way. In more general terms of reliability, if you ...

Re: Chromium with wayland native's feature.
I'm not assigning blame to any developer or group of developers, that just happens to be the state of the Wayland landscape at the moment. The Wayland/Weston stuff at the beginning was not intended to replace anything, it was the pet project of an individual with a limited set of design goals to be ...

Re: Chromium with wayland native's feature.
Looks like it does the same in Gnome Wayland session. Additionally it appears the Qterminal runs Wayland native in Plasma Wayland session but uses XWayland in Gnome Wayland session. Maybe in another 4 or 5 years the compositor developers will have sorted out standards for things that have been stand...

Re: Chromium with wayland native's feature.
Maybe it is a victim of compositor developers being slow agree on and adopt standards. There is a blog post that indicates ozone will fall back to X11/Xwayland if the protocol that allows tab drag is not supported, maybe that is still the case? https://blogs.igalia.com/msisov/2020/11/20/chrome-chrom...

Re: Chromium with wayland native's feature.
The ArchWiki has this. https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/chromium Native Wayland support Since version 87, native Wayland support in Chromium can be enabled with the following flags [6]: --enable-features=UseOzonePlatform --ozone-platform=wayland See #Making flags persistent for a permanent configura...

Re: Chromium with wayland native's feature.
According to this post https://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?p=739899#p739899 the Wayland support should automatically work when $XDG_SESSION_TYPE is set to Wayland. When you run a Gnome or Plasma wayland session this variable gets set, if you are creating a custom Wayland session you should be se...

Re: Moved motherboard to a new chassis and then Debian11 wouldn't boot
It doesn't seem likely that there was any damage to the stuff in the efi partition. There are two parts to the equation the part in the firmware that has to recognize what is in the efi partition and the part in the partition that has to have what the firmware is looking for. When you run update-gru...

Re: (SOLVED) KDE desktop fails to start from SDDM or startx
It could be that when you upgraded not all of the packages had made their way into testing yet and you needed to upgrade again to get all of them. It could there were changes in dependencies and you did the standard upgrade and needed to do 'apt full upgrade' or 'apt dist-upgrade' to get them all. W...

Re: Debian 11.1.0 is hanging at GRUB bootloader
Don't know the grub stuff, but my first step before getting into that would be to look the computer up on the Dell website to see if there is a bios update.

Re: Quack remedies for the server
Install sudo Fiction: ... because it's dangerous to run as root. Fact: Issuing commands as root is probably the most common task on a server, because you do maintenance, perform upgrades or set up services. All these tasks require root privileges. Adding an unprivileged user and elevate him to issu...

New upcomings! When i use tcp instead of udp to connect to nordvpn then i dont have any problems. Does this still has something to do with the dns settings? Looking more into things, DNS seems like it may be less likely. The basic troubleshooting for ExpressVPN is try connecting to a different serv...

I would look in /etc/default/locale to make sure the language is correct there before going down the rabbit hole.

Re: Internet connection on VM
Any ideas how to fix this? It sounded like the easy solution was to specify what dns servers to use in the setup of the VPN being used inside the virtual machine, otherwise you start getting into other configurations potentially in both VPNs and how the networking interface setup for the VM may fac...

Scaremongering? Would you prefer they kept the information to themselves? It says right in the article "It's currently not known how the attackers gain initial access to the network" I'm not seeing information that indicates how widespread this is, but I didn't look very hard so that infor...

Re: plasma and wayland
Nothing happening is odd to me, but since it is working for me I don't know what happens if there is some error other than an authentication error. If I type in an error message I get a dialog box about authentication failing and I have an entry in my log files. You can try running it from the comma...

Are you shure you can run Synaptic in wayland?? When I reboot my os automatically boots in plasma. I have to explicit choose Plasma(Wayland) on the login screen to run wayland. When I use "su -" I see the following: peer@debian11:~$ su - Password: root@debian11:~# synaptic Unable to init ...
