Esaist and less chance of issues developing by far is to do a clean install of the latest version.
I like the rolling upgrade of Kali Linux but have never upgraded a FreeBSD box and do a clean build from the ground up.

Re: [O/S] Can't shutdown because of udev-worker/modprobe
One of my Thinkpad W520 never shuts down completely no matter if I'm running Linux or FreeBSD.
I have to do a cold reset and may have to do it several times after it boots to get the OS to load.
Then it's good till reboot.
A hardware problem it developed a year ago and I tolerate.

Re: Should I recommend Debian to a friend who has no Linux experience?
I taught people who had never used the command line to build a FreeBSD desktop from scratch using ports. He can substitute pkg for ports and still follow the outline. https://web.archive.org/web/20220314115235/https://trihexagonal.org/ I let my hosting package go and havrn't updated it since they st...

Re: [Solved] Troll-Name-Calling
When I joined I told about the second ranked link search for the Debian forums was Debian forums - Rude. That as a response when someone tried me out in that respect. However, it seems Admin took that to heart and not long after that believe some changes to negate opinion that took effect. I'm on my...

Re: Lenovo = a piece of crap?
Right, so my time is up for a new laptop. I have a lenovo thinkpad w520 and I've had major pains with it - I have two W520, am using one now runinng Kali Linux and another beside me running FreeBSD. FreeBSD patches the BIOS bug during the build, asking you first for permission That one developed an...

Re: Traumatized By MS Windows 11 - I need a hug :)
For all you closet Windows users here is a block TCP/UDP to and from port 0 rule I made for Win98 ConSeal PC Firewall and carried over to pf firewall. When I purchased a Thinkpad W520 that came with Win10Pro and entered that rule into the default Windows firewall it blocked Windows Update. This is h...

Re: [Installation] A program, why install it when archives exist?
I never install a program from anywhere but Official Repositories and by the book. That keeps things orderly, without risk of a bad download and makes my OCD all warm and fuzzy.
When I upgrade my Chromebooks I have to delete all the archived programs before I have room to do it.

Re: [workaround found] "reboot -f" not working anymore
It's a link in Bookworm, same as reboot : I believe there is some difference as to shutting down programs than just a reboot.According to Google: "shutdown now. Shutdown the computer immediately (don't power down). Note that in UNIX systems this kind of shutdown means to go to “ single-user mo...

Never use your real name online for anything that isn't positively necessary. Never, ever, post your photo online. If someone pisses me off in a major way the first thing I want to do is look for a photo to see what this person looks like. In 2000 some people were talked into paying me a surprise vi...

I have a Fluxbox tutorial that does just that. The person I initially typed that up for had made things much more difficult than need be and ...

Do yourself a favor and learn to use apt and apt-get for installation of packages. You will be glad you did later on. Your skill level will benefit as will your comfort and confidence level.
