Re: [Software] All images appear blurry in Chromium

I've found a solution on my own to this problem after lots of google-fu'ing.

Lauching Chromium with the

Code: Select all

--force-device-scale-factor=1
flag fixes this issue and results in correct image rendering.

[Software] All images appear blurry in Chromium

This is an issue I've been ignoring for a while but would like to know if anyone's fixed. Any images I zoom in to native resolution in Chromium are blurry. This only happens in the Chromium browser and does not happen in Firefox. This happens regardless of Chromium's window size and I have not found...

Pasting

Code: Select all

FREETYPE_PROPERTIES="cff:no-stem-darkening=0 autofitter:no-stem-darkening=0"
into /etc/environment and rebooting results in crystal clear nearly mac-esque font rendering. I went for years staring at the default unconfigured freetype fonts and can never go back

Re: [Discussion] Why are severely broken point releases being released for Bookworm

I think we have different definitions of what a critical component is. If the average desktop user walks into this problem by blindly updating, assuming everything will be alright because this is Debian after all, or have automatic updates turned on in some form like with GNOME Software or unattend...

Re: [Discussion] Why are severely broken point releases being released for Bookworm

Indeed, and this is in large part the attitude that pulls my chain which I alluded to earlier - Namely that the "average" (and largest / most important goup) of Debian users are desktop "web-browser & games" users, and and that anything introducing any friction whatsoever fo...

Re: [Discussion] Why are severely broken point releases being released for Bookworm

I think a lot of what the NVIDIA side is trying to get across here is that it's not exactly clear why a point release update had to be pushed if this problem was known about beforehand. Unless you have a lot of play-money to throw around into the new Intel GPU market, AMD and NVIDIA are your only ch...

Re: [Discussion] Why are severely broken point releases being released for Bookworm

a large portion of the desktop/laptop user base FTFY. The majority of Debian (and GNU/Linux in general) installations are on servers, which don't care one iota about wireless (especially with closed-source blobs) or nvidia being nvidia and not keeping up with kernel changes. As for the ext4 bug, th...

[Discussion] Why are severely broken point releases being released for Bookworm

Has there been any discussion or communication with the Debian development team as to why we've had at least 3 back-to-back point releases of stable that have broken critical components of the system? Debian 12.3 point release caused a critical ext4 file system data corruption bug (https://bugs.debi...

Re: WARNING!. Problems with the incoming update - kernel 6.1.0-18 & nvidia driver

Does this affect legacy NVIDIA 470 drivers or all of the NVIDIA driver versions? I have a card that uses the legacy 470 drivers and not the current 525.

Re: Replacing current OS with Debian via debootstrap?

If you use debootstrap you expose yourself to the problem that you probably not have enough knowledge in system architecture to complete yourself your new installation  so that this one can do all what you did use until yet on the old! your considerations concerning grub etc. are the clear...

Replacing current OS with Debian via debootstrap?

I'm in a situation where I would like to install Debian onto my current machine but my only USB stick has decided to kick the bucket and I do not have any CD's or DVD's I can burn. I have an android phone and have heard you can use it to boot install media, but that it requires rooting the phone and...

Re: [Software] How do I get nvidia nvenc encoding working?

Already opened I suppose you have already installed the libnvidia-encode1 package. I looked at this package earlier but havent installed it because it mentions version 525 for the current nvidia driver. I looked on the debian wiki page for hardware acceleration and it mentioned legacy-encoding pack...

[Software] How do I get nvidia nvenc encoding working?

I'm using Debian 12 with the MATE desktop and would like to get OBS-Studio working with nvidia NVENC encoding. The only distro I've ever used that has had this working out of the box is Linux Mint but nothing I try seems to get it to work on any other distro, including Debian. Anytime I try recordin...

I tried asking the same question on the Mint forums but they removed it because they wont answer any questions about any other distro other than Mint unfortunately

Re: [Software] What does Linux Mint do to get Nvidia NVENC recording working?

Hmmm...are you using the current Bookworm release of Debian, or an older one? Which Nvidia drivers did you install and how did you do so? Yes I'm using bookworm 12.2 I'm using the Nvidia 470 driver as I have an older GPU (GT 635) and installed it using sudo apt install nvidia-tesla-470-driver in th...

[Software] What does Linux Mint do to get Nvidia NVENC recording working?

I've installed plain Debian on another machine recently and have been using it to play some low end games I want to record some footage with. I use OBS-Studio and Mint is the only linux distro I've ever used that actually has working Nvidia NVENC for recording. On every other distro when trying to r...
