Re: TDE desktop environment not loading after login

You may wish to consult the TDE mailing lists . I don't remember seeing any complaints there from Buster users lately, but I suspect there aren't any 14.0.13 users left there. 14.1.2 is due before 1 May. If I were you, I would get upgraded to 14.1.1 now, and in a few days to 14.1.2. All my Debian in...

Re: [Software] A line by height of 1 pixel appears on my screen since 2 days ago

Did you just upgrade to 12.5 2 days ago, or change anything else in the past 2 days? What you describe is a possible result of a display failure. It's possible a driver switch could make a difference. Please paste output from: inxi -GSaz --vs Note: I could see neither image, as your image host requi...

How would you know if you don't try? Is it just a test, or a fix? Either way, it's not meant as permanent.

I don't know how many choices that represents. Since you are using a Wayland selection, try any X11 selection.

Re: Spilt screen

It could be a Radeon hardware problem. Have you tried curing it simply by logging out and back in, instead of restarting the whole computer? Have you tried removing the Radeon, cleaning its electrical contacts, and reinstalling? Have you tried switching from XFCE to some other DE or WM at your login...

Re: [Video] amdgpu: amdgpu_cs_query_fence_status failed.

Try changing login type. You should have a choice between Wayland and X11 somewhere on your login screen. You may have other choices as well. Others can be added if desired and available freespace on / filesystem exists, such as Cinnamon, KDE/Plasma, Mate &/or XFCE. If you have been using autolo...

Re: Installation faulty on intel nuc

When you burned the .iso, how did you decide that removing the stick was safe to do, or, did you even remove it at all and just reboot when Rufus claimed it was finished? Just because an app says it finished writing doesn't necessarily mean the system was done copying every sector successfully to th...

Re: [Off-Topic] The impossible Debians 12 and 11!!!

Is there something special about your environment that compels you to use DHCP? If not, don't try. Use the little NET installer and set up a static IP. With the NET installer, installation can't really start until you have the network working.

Re: Very big difference in graphic performance

what is your display server? Hopefully for gaming it's x11. What's your graphics card? graphics driver? what desktop environment are you using? compositor? what are the compositors settings? Most of this is answered by comment #13. If inxi had been run from within an X session it would have provide...

Now show us the installed state of various sound system components, rather than installation commands you used: sudo dpkg-query -W | egrep 'alsa|arts|audio|codec|demul|fmpeg|gstr|jack|kodi|26[45]|mix|mpv|pavu|puls|sof-|sound|vlc|wire|xdg' | sort inxi -ASaz --vs Have you tried using alsa directly, vi...

Re: [Testing - Trixie] Upgrade to either testing or unstable from latest stable results in no video upon boot

I did an upgrade of Noble last night with a 12 year old NVidia Fermi and got similar experience with the fresh 6.8.0-22 kernel - black screens with a random scattering of red and blue pixels on launch of DM that doesn't happen with prior kernel 6.8.0-11. Booting 22 to multi-user.target works normall...

Re: gdm3 stopped working after hardware update

IME, Xorg.0.log (or Xorg.[0-9].log[.old]) is traditionally found in /var/log/, and/or in more recent releases of Gnome and various other DEs in ~/.local/share/xorg/. I'm not sure whether Wayland sessions produce anything elsewhere than in the journal.

Re: [Testing - Trixie] Upgrade to either testing or unstable from latest stable results in no video upon boot

I've noticed threads not so long ago that a missing firmware warning turned out to be true, and that fetching correct or fixed firmware file or kernel from a non-standard source was the only fix. I often see missing firmware messages on Bookworm and Trixie kernel installations, but it's never actual...

Re: Graphics card and monitor won't work with displayport.

What did you spend on the cable? How long is it? Are both ends the same connector type? DP cable used for output from dock to AOC, or input to dock from RX, or doesn't matter? Is the AOC normally the only display you use, or is there usually a second or third? If not the only, is it supposed to be t...

[Feedback] plain text attachments not acceptable

Why? Multiple binary types are allowed, but not .txt. This is puzzling, and differs from other forums I frequent. I ask to see an OP's Xorg.0.log or bootinfoscript output by attaching, and instructing that the file is too large for pasting into reply, and instead, the poster says it wasn't allowed a...

Re: [O/S] Cloning a startup disk to a bootable partition on another disk

So in 'pseudo-code' I would like to make a new bootable disk in a 250G partition on the spare disk (perhaps leaving it completely empty?) and then regularly and remotely running as root do something equivalent to: rsync -a /* /dev/sdb?/ so that every single file and permission on the current system...

Re: gdm3 stopped working after hardware update

140 running processes with newest still well under 4 digits, fetching in short order following fresh boot. Your ps ID 2023 makes me wonder what's going on, and how long before you ran ps. A little busier here on newer/64bit with RAID added: # ps -e | wc -l 209 # ps -e | egrep -i 'dm|xorg|wayl|x11|tt...

Re: gdm3 stopped working after hardware update

As you can see only gdm-wayland-session is running and Xorg is not running at all. The command you issued and trailing prompt are missing, so I have no idea what those 5 lines show just from looking. I just booted a 32bit Bookworm, logged in remotely, and get the following: # ps -e | wc -l 140 # ps...

Re: sound controls do not change speaker linearly

In distros with newer pipewire releases, which I think includes Trixie, installing pipewire-pulse forces removal of pulseaudio, so I don't know what point there is keeping it along with pipewire and pipewire-pulse in Bookworm. My idea is to try pulseaudio package removal, to see if its absence has a...
