In case it's not clear, this also is why sources.list of the installation that went through has only the CD-ROM line. IMHO, depending on how one wishes to define terms, it's either a bug or an absurdly poor design decision.

Re: Debian fails to boot on NVMe M.2 disk after UEFI install

I use Debian live ISOs routinely and have never run into what you describe. Just now, confirmed inxi is installed out-of-the-box and sudo works without password (e.g., sudo nano ... ). Did you confirm the ISO's checksum?

Re: Opinion: Reviewing systemd-free distros

For those (like me) who hadn't heard about the issue, one article of many.

Anyhoo, seems to me likely this plays out like systemd-boot, available but not widely adopted because it offers little or no advantage over the status quo.

Re: Debian fails to boot on NVMe M.2 disk after UEFI install

Sounds like you're using the standard installer. If so, consider downloading a live ISO. You will be able to run a much wider range of tests. And the ISO has both installers (standard and Calamares).

Re: [HowTo] Getting Started with Virt-Manager & QEMU-KVM

For all of those issues ... Anyone using the tutorial is welcome to do as you suggest. Personally, the xrandr script seems easier. Why, what issue does the agent have with KDE? It's the other way around, KDE doesn't run the vdagent. I have no idea why. Frankly, I think it's pretty shitty the KDE de...

Re: NetworkManager Keeps Disconnecting and Reconnecting

I have two computers with the Realtek 8821CE chip. Supposedly supported by the kernel, but only work well with DKMS packages not in Debian repo. I ended up getting USB wifi adapters. Problem solved.

Re: konqueror opening thousands of instances of folders

Download a copy of the live ISO for the current version of KDE. Burn to flash drive (or copy to Ventoy drive, if you have one). Boot live session. Test opening the same files which are giving you trouble in the installed system. This will tell you whether it is the files or the system which has a pr...

Re: [O/S]

Could you please assist me with the following issue: Is something on the system not working as expected? Or are you just rummaging around in the log files out of curiosity? FWIW, here are the corresponding log file lines from a plain vanilla Gnome VM which works fine (AFAIK): root@debian:~# journal...

Re: [HowTo] Getting Started with Virt-Manager & QEMU-KVM

CwF , thanks for the tip. I'm chagrined to confess, it never occurred to me to see what ticking that option does. Certainly, it's easier and faster. Notably, works with Plasma-Wayland in KDE, so a nice clean answer for that scenario. OTOH, the graphics resolution is lower than auto-resize. Also, wh...

Re: [Software] Issues with wine software

What winetricks package? AFAIK, it has always been a script downloaded separately. Also, if you have installed Wine 9.0, you're outside repo anyway.

Re: [HowTo] Getting Started with Virt-Manager & QEMU-KVM

Having wrestled with this for several days, I'm going to explain how to enable auto-resize in desktops where it doesn't work out-of-the-box, which turns out to be most of them. This is somewhat advanced stuff, but not rocket surgery. Besides, a VM at less than full size is frustrating, so worth a l...

mindDown , it looks like dlu2021 has answered your question. Real purpose of this post is to show you how the notification function works. Type @ and then start to type the user's name; a pop-up lets you select the correct one; forum software will replace the typed @ with mention tags (which have b...

Re: [Installation] Can't shutdown or reboot from XFCE on a new install

I just confirmed that all of the packages for task-xfce-desktop are located on DVD1 of the Debian installer ISO, so no internet connection is required for it. Excellent! May I ask, confirmed how? Suppose I want to run the same test vis-a-vis a different desktop, say, LXDE (presumably not very popul...

... without network connection those packages will simply not be installed at all. Have a feeling you didn't see the OP's follow-up question , as he (or she) used neither the quote nor notification functions. I've been trying to track down the answer, as it's a matter of general interest. All I can...

Re: Issues with Gnome on newly installed Debian 12

Let's clarify. There is nothing in Gnome called "software manager." There is a system app called Software and a desktop function called Activities (upper-left) which is closely intertwined with Dashboard (lower-middle). Checking a Gnome test box, Software seems to know nothing about Firefo...

Suit yourself. Having researched the subject a few time out of curiosity, my impression is that systemd-boot hasn't gotten very far because it's a PITA with no particular advantages.
