Re: [Software] Kaddressbook not adding google contacts
circuitry5792 I don't think you're correct; that URL hasn't been updated since 2013. In looking into this further, it appears this is resolved in kaddressbook version 23.4.01 per https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=446580. Since the version of kaddressbook in Debian is very old, what the best way ...

Re: Completed Migration to Debian 12
I took a offer for a new job and had to move to a different city. Congrats! Congrats on your migration! I'm doing the same. In my case, I have another system with Windows and use FreeRDP to connect to it for Microsoft Office and whatever else I might require. The only issue is this requires me to b...

Re: [Testing - Trixie] PulseAudio Using CPU When No Sound is Playing
So, I got tired of my battery life being robbed and troubleshooting this and chose to move to PipeWire instead. While PipeWire also appears to have this issue, they put a workaround in place to address the speech-dispatcher issue and it appears PulseAudio does not. Thankfully, the migration was pain...

Re: [Testing - Trixie] Pulse Audio Using CPU When No Sound is Playing
Well, looks like the issue has, actually, not been worked around as it persists and it's not clear to me what keeps launching speech-dispatcher-dummy. If someone could provide some guidance here, that would be great. I guess I can uninstall this speech-dispatcher package too, but I'd rather keep it ...

Re: [Testing - Trixie] Pulse Audio Using CPU When No Sound is Playing
Upon further review, I have worked around the issue. In reviewing PulseAudio in further detail, I noticed this: $ pacmd list-sink-inputs 1 sink input(s) available. index: 2 driver: <protocol-native.c> flags: state: RUNNING sink: 1 <alsa_output.pci-0000_64_00.6.analog-stereo> volume: mono: 65536 / 10...

Re: [Testing - Trixie] Pulse Audio Using CPU When No Sound is Playing
@None1975 Thanks for the feedback. As I'm a bit new to Linux, I'm a bit hesitant to go down this route as sound is, well, working. I've also reviewed https://wiki.debian.org/PipeWire and it doesn't seem like there's too much there, so I might venture.

Re: [Testing - Trixie] Pulse Audio Using CPU When No Sound is Playing
Thanks for chiming in. I have no video loaded in Firefox and the issue is reproducible with Firefox closed. While I agree 2% is insignificant, it varies between 1.5 and 5% and I consider 5% more significant on an 8 core machine where battery life is important. I'm new to Linux, so I'm uncertain if P...

[Testing - Trixie] PulseAudio Using CPU When No Sound is Playing
Hello! I'm new to Debian and enjoying it so far! I'm running KDE and, in looking at my system's CPU utilization, I noticed pulseaudio uses a little CPU time even if there's no sound playing: Tasks: 381 total, 2 running, 379 sleeping, 0 stopped, 0 zombie %Cpu(s): 0.8 us, 0.6 sy, 0.0 ni, 98.4 id, 0.0 ...

Make certain you're on the latest BIOS; sometimes it takes a while for Lenovo's BIOSes to make it to LVFS and you need to download them from Lenovo directly.

Re: So many fonts … but why, oh why ?
artytux If Mina is using KDE per https://itsfoss.community/t/fonts-in-libre-office/11119/13, she mentions removing the font per https://itsfoss.community/t/fonts-in-libre-office/11119/16 and the TTF file still being on her machine. I briefly reviewed my fonts in /usr/share/fonts/truetype/noto and t...

Re: So many fonts … but why, oh why ?
I'm new to Linux and Debian and came across this thread because there was an absolutely ridiculous number of fonts, so much so that it negatively affects the usability of the applications that use them and this is not ideal for anyone. In the hope this helps someone else, in my case, I'm running KDE...

Meaning, everything that Debian wrote to /boot/efi/EFI and related.

Re: Boot configuration has been recovered by restoring backup
BIOS is up to date and there is no Linux mode (looks like the newer machines dropped this along with S3 support).

Re: Boot configuration has been recovered by restoring backup
@dlu2021 Yea, I saw this and reset my BIOS, but the issue persists, so I thought it might be related to how Debian configured the EFI environment.

Re: Boot configuration has been recovered by restoring backup
Appreciate you taking a second look! It's definitely EFI related, but it's good to know what I have on the drive is what's supposed to be there.

Boot configuration has been recovered by restoring backup
On my new ThinkPad I get this message on every start before grub comes up, and then the machine restarts itself and all is normal until the next reboot. This started happening ever since my system rebooted itself while in s2idle. In case this is a Debian issue, and not a BIOS issue, here are some th...

Re: Debian [Bookworm] freezes intermittently
I'd start by making sure you're on the latest BIOS. If that doesn't resolve the issue, I'd then update your kernel.
