Did I miss something during basic Lenny install?

A few weeks ago I decided I was fed up enough with my Window$ PC setup to give the latest and great sounding Lenny a chance to do everything I need, and now do in XP. I still think I will eventually succeed, but am surprised at some obstacles I encountered, and am wondering if I messed up somewhere ...
