I did a complete reinstall from scratch, this time only with Gnome.
Now the dashboard shows but the software manager doesn't find e.g. firefox although the ESR version is installed. It does find other apps though, e.g. libre office. Is this normal?

Re: Issues with Gnome on newly installed Debian 12
... do you have an idea what to try before doing a reinstall from scratch?
No, but maybe someone else will. Pretty sure we're talking about removing the Gnome desktop while leaving Cinnamon in place, a delicate operation (maybe not possible).
Also, you're missing stuff unrelated to the conflict, e.g., the panel and standard apps in Software Manager. Again, I'd reinstall.
Then I'll see if someone else has an idea and if not, I'll reinstall from scratch tomorrow.
It might be an interesting ...

Re: Issues with Gnome on newly installed Debian 12
Please edit your prior post to add code tags .
Thanks for the suggestion, I did that.
As for how to fix, I'd reinstall from scratch. If you are using the Standard Installer, be sure to untick the Gnome box on the choose-desktop screen.
I thought of that as well but hoped there would be a way to uninstall and reinstall some packages instead of doing a complete install from scratch. I cannot really mess it up more, so do you have an idea what to try before doing a reinstall from scratch ...

Re: Issues with Gnome on newly installed Debian 12
In case there is any mix between the two and I just want to keep cinammon, how would I remove gnome then without destroying cinnamon or should I uninstall both and then reinstall cinnamon? If so, how?

Re: Issues with Gnome on newly installed Debian 12
I phrased that wrong: If I recall correctly, I installed cinnamon and as far as I know, that installs parts of gnome since it is based on it. E.g. the software manager that usually comes with gnome which now only shows the flatpack software but not the "normally" installed software.
I used "sudo cat /var/log/installer/syslog |grep gnome> install_sys.log" and then the same to append the lines with cinnamon. This is what the file contains now, maybe this helps:

Thanks. I didn't know that it was not official and I found the posting you mentioned. My bad.

Re: Debian's Community on discord is back
Sounds interesting. Do you know of anyone running a Debian discussion on Mumble?Uptorn wrote: 2024-04-23 00:24 I can't help but to feel that Mumble would be much more appropriate for a Debian community. Never would I use proprietary software to discuss Debian.
The Discord channel doesn't seem to work anyway.

Discord server ?
Hello,
I found the Debian discord server and connected to it. However, the only thread shown to me was #welcome and even there, it said I was not authorized to see the messages. Initially, there was a timer that counted down starting at 10:00 minutes but even when that reached 0:00, nothing happened.
How can I access the Debian discord server?

[Solved] Issue with wifi adapter while installing Debian 12
I use a laptop with a MEDIATEK Corp. MT7922 802.11ax PCI Express Wireless Network Adapter which was not recognized during the installation.
It said no wifi was found and I was given the choice of various others but said none of these after checking the internet and it managed indeed to recognize and use it instantly. So the original message it had not found the wifi was just misleading and confusing.
That might be fixed in the Debian installation since it confuses new users.

Issues with Gnome on newly installed Debian 12
Hi,
I installed Debian 12 with Gnome and Cinnamon and it seems something went wrong with the Gnome installation. When I open the software manager, it finds flatpackages but not the apps installed using apt / nala. I also do not see the quick launch bar at the bottom that normally shows some apps. Any idea how to fix this or where to start looking for the problem?
Additional info: I installed it as dual boot since there is one app on Win that I still need but I installed it on a brandnew SSD ...
