Re: Guest additions on Bullseye

Comparing what happens with current Debian installs here with experience of previous installs rather points the finger at the host rather than the Debian virtual machine. Mentioning version numbers above jogs my memory that recent calls to update the host VB install have not been heeded. Updating th...

Guest additions on Bullseye

Something wrong here - new install of Bullseye/Gnome today. Going through the procedure here: https://virtualboxes.org/doc/installing-guest-additions-on-debian/ -the GA install script starts but the module compile stage crashes: Building the main Guest Additions 6.1.6 module for kernel 5.10.0.8-amd6...

Re: How to upgrade to KDE 4.4?

KDE 4.4 seems very much like ver. 3.5, a little cleaner perhaps. One big improvement is that the nagging bug in power management (no profiles found) has been cleared.

Ah, I think I see the source of our little disagreement, you missed the ironic nature of my initial post. Perhaps you are a US citizen?

Re: Debian kernel change may break applications

Yes I'm already running a BSD but looking forward to the wider choice of packages and less filespace demanded by Debian.

Re: Debian kernel change may break applications

Thanks for the quick reply! Doesn't look like Debian are confident of this hybrid as yet...

I see from the joining dates that I've been around for longer than you - but so what?

I think you should express it verbally. Some symbolically uninitiated party is bound to think you are just really excited about Debian and do in fact find it equal to Ubuntu.
Debian not the same as Ubuntu? Shock! It's not the same as Mandriva either, so what?

I was looking for that info and found this thread. So where is this BSD kernel? No sign of it in a recent net squeeze install - has the plan been abandoned?

Mandriva has 4.4 too. If it were not for deb packaging I'd jump ship in a flash!

Sorry to come back to an old topic, but it seemed more sensible than opening a new one. What exactly has to be some to install an updated kernel? I assume there are consequential actions - like updating grub for instance. The existing DVD set for Deb. installs a 2.4.something kernel by default, whic...

Grub, MBR,...

Hello all; since installing Deb. this a.m., I've realised putting the boot loader on a floppy wasn't the smartest of ideas. When I fooled around with Knoppix hard disk installs it made sense, but now I've grown up into a proper Debian one it doesn't. Also it mangled the MBR so I couldn't boot into W...
