Re: fresh wheezy install. upgrade xfce and firefox?
i also wonder if the xfce menu behaviour can be changed for when you click on it. i like this way: you click, the menu shows immediately, you move your mouse and release it to select the menu item. you know, the oldschool, traditional way. instead by default it is this way: you click, then you have...

Re: My sources.list
A mixed sources list needs a corresponding APT Preferences file to be useful, otherwise it is a complete mess and a waste of resources. Not really. If you have testing/sid/experimental then you will pull everything from sid, unless there is no sid package available, in which case it will fill the g...

Re: Does anybody of a B.C. to A.D. date converter ?
Of course it is not as simple as that. For example, calendar changes did not happen uniformally - so dates where different in different countries across europe. The Gregorian calendar was adopted initially in 1582, but later in other countries (British Empire in 1752, Russia in 1917.) Going further ...

Debian sid here. I've one package from stable ( libssl0.9.8 ) - needed for nixnote; I've got packages from experimental for iceweasel. I'm using an officially unsupported repo - debian multimedia. I still can't break Debian. What am I doing wrong?

There's nothing to prevent you from charging for your services. Why would you think otherwise?

marble with OpenStreetMap might do some of what you want. Not that I've tried this as marble pulls in a lot of KDE stuff.

Re: what de or window manager do you use?
Xfce does not have a fully functioning desktop which integrates with the file manager. The main reason for this is that (as far as I know anyway) xfdesktop4 manages the desktop and not thunar. It was planned for 4.10 to replace xfdesktop with a thunar plugin, but that was not completed in time for ...

From Gnome-Look : An installation script let you choose the logo of your favourite distribution and the appearance of the main menu icon (Gnome/distrib, monochrome/colour). Download the tar.gz file and extract it. In the new folder created, run the ./INSTALL script to choose the distribution logo (U...

Gotta love the nuclear subs that run on Windows. Nuclear Subs Now Run on Windows : http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Submarines-Windows-Royal-Navy,6718.html The Admiralty has a long tradition of closed source software. Use an mp3 tag editor such as Ex Falso, or puddletag. There are plenty of others to choose from. Most will allow you to use services such as CDDB to automatically fill in the details.

Re: Installing Herrie (Stable package) on a Wheezy Box
It's probably better to do a mixed sid/testing install # apt-get install -t unstable herrie You will need to add the unstable repository, and if you wish to default packages to testing then edit /etc/apt/preferences Package: * Pin: release a=testing Pin-Priority: 650 Package: * Pin: release a=unstab...

Re: Distrowatch
My take on the 'major' thing is this. If Ubuntu and Mint disappeared tomorrow, then the good ship Debian would sail on as if nothing had happened. If Debian disappeared in a puff of smoke, there would be major holes in Ubuntu and Mint. Debian is major distro because of its wealth of package maintain...
