I also prefer a fresh install to start without unwanted things from installing and removing packages, trying lots of things. As I have a few boxes to play with, I do upgrade one and compare the results. Fresh installations mean more time tweaking to be sure that I have all the packages that I like, ...

Please tell us what version of Debian, including desktop or window manager, your SSD and post the output of cat /etc/fstab to show your mount options. Io you use noatime, discard and so on? Re: Unable to type password after wake up (occasionally)
Install inxi and report the output of inxi -G Which desktop and desktop manager are you using? One way to solve this is open a virtual terminal, su - to root and type loginctl list-sessions loginctl unlock-sessions which as you might expect unlocks any locked session where you can't enter a password

Re: Problem network mirror package
How does your host machine connect to the Internet? Do you use a proxy? How is the vm networked in virtualbox - using a bridge, NAT or something else? If the mirrors in Thailand or Singapore give errors, can you try other locations? Are you installing Debian 9 from the netinstall image, the full CD,...

Do you have standard debian repository or have you added any third party repository such as virtualbox, libreoffice or anything else? Do you check top to see how the system is performing, ever...

Re: Looking for video sharing websites similar to Youtube
I thought that the vimeo.com free plan included uploads up to 500 MB/week, 25 GB/year, which I agree is not much, but they have various priced options, such as 6 Euro / month. A quick search gives lots of options, but the free plans usually include advertising while the paid for options may not have...

I have the same Nvidia GM107M and use
in /etc/default/grub. You might try editing GRUB when starting to manually test if changing this helps or not.
Code: Select all
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="modprobe.blacklist=nouveau quiet"

Please list your version of linux-image and linux-headers. If virtualbox was working you must have dkms installed. Have you updated a kernel or installed a new kernel without headers? I found that installing Buster (or Stretch) using GPT means that the external monitor is detected and works, using HDMI connection. When Buster or Stretch was installed using MBR, the external monitor was not detected when using HDMI connection. That will depend on your video device. If you did inst...

What about /dev/sdb1?
What other hard drives do you have installed?

Yes, I hate the backspace only key, no delete key. I use a wired mouse with my Debian Buster Laptop and my friend uses a wireless mouse with the Macbook.
I know that a lot of Windows users report bluetooth devices are flaky - that may be Windows, haven't used too much bluetooth on Linux.

Re: Installing opensource firmware on my desktop
I've looked at both Coreboot and Libreboot but haven't found very much hardware that is compatible, apart from the Chromebooks.
https://www.coreboot.org/users.html
https://libreboot.org/docs/hardware/
It's another good idea that seems to be lacking sufficient support.
