Re: Jessie and systemd

@llivv I only asked if issues were to be expected during the transition to systemd and if the transition was already on the schedule. Why? Well, quite obviously to be more vigilant during that period and, if need be, refrain from d-uing... did a d-u on jul. 26, rebooted to a 'rescue shell.' - login...

Re: Permissions change randomly in Testing after recent d-u

I have been a Linux user for many a year, most of them using Debian, and I have never experienced something like this. As I said, it all started a dew days ago.

Permissions change randomly in Testing after recent d-u

Hello, I am running Debian Testing x86_64. I installed it over a year ago and never experienced major issues with dist-upgrades. However, during the last days, after a d-u, I am experiencing all kind of permission problems. Maybe it is related to the migration to systemd. I do not use sudo but su in...

Re: Linux sound regressions frustration

The kernel fellows have helped me to solve the main issue:

https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=72651#c8

I have installed hda-jack-retask and set an override of 0x1b to "headphone". Now I have a headphone slider in alsamixer and sound works.

Re: Linux sound regressions frustration

Thank you. I have filled two bugs against the kernel: 72651 and 72671, respectively. Both are regressions. For the first I know the last working version (3.2) and I know it is not working with 3.10, 3.12 and 3.13. I have not tried a vanilla kernel but I have tried 3.13, 3.12 and 3.10 from Debian, 3....

Re: Linux sound regressions frustration

That again points to the supposition that it IS just you (i.e. a configuration problem or missing firmware or such). hda-intel is widely enough used that it doesn't seem possible to have such a showstopper "kernel regression" (apparently for some time now) without a LOT more noise (so to ...

Re: Linux sound regressions frustration

The problem with the USB card, also appears to be a regression, as I suspected from my previous experiences: http://forums.archlinux.fr/topic14453.html This happens all the time with the Linux kernel. There is a lot of hardware that "requires" patching the drivers (well, at least that is t...

Re: Linux sound regressions frustration

There is also this:

https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic ... OsOongHWpE

As I said, I was able to use the card up to kernel 3.2.

This guy detected some kind of regression with 3.3 (as I did). For him, the problem just vanished. For me, it persists.

Re: Linux sound regressions frustration

Well, I have found this: http://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/tiwai/sound.git/commit/?id=ea4e7af1221237e7173ede198a817097d99e084b Which is a commit from 2011. At that time, I was able to make the card work with options snd-hda-intel model=hp-rp5700 However, that option does no longer exists. ...

Re: Linux sound regressions frustration

I see that this problem is not being taken seriously, as usual. But, before making any assumptions, please note that this is problem has lasted for years and I have really tried everything.

Re: Linux sound regressions frustration

... or you could try one of the things you haven't tried yet, that will fix at least one of the devices. Yep, there is something I have not tried yet: Installing Windows... but I think I would rather invest that money in a new USB sound card... which I can sell once it gets deprecated by the kernel.

Well, not completely. If I use backports I would need to keep kernels updates on hold in order to prevent being affected by the regressions.

Re: Linux sound regressions frustration

Moving from a working solution to a non-working solution doesn't sound like an upgrade to me  Well, Stable is a solution because the external USB card still works there, which is not the case for the integrated sound card... So I guess I should migrate back to Lenny in order to have a fully f...

Re: Linux sound regressions frustration

Yes, I guess I could try Stable. But that is not a real solution, because it would mean I would not be able to ever upgrade my system again.

Linux sound regressions frustration

Hello, This is not a Debian-specific issue. However, I am a Debian Testing user and I have always had problems with sound in Linux. 1.- I have a laptop with a ALC892 card. The only way to be able to record sound was installing the driver from the Realtek site. This is fine. The problem is that proba...

Jessie and systemd

Hello, I have just read about Debian migrating to systemd. I do not have any particular opinion on this matter. However, I am currently running Jessie in 3 computers and I am a bit concerned about the transition. If, say, one day I see some systemd-related stuff while doing a d-u, should I go ahead?...

Re: [SCRIPT] Install Chromium + Flash 11.7r700 PepperFlash 6

Hello, I have modified your script to make it distro-agnostic and to have it handle architecture. The fact that it is distro-agnostic essentially means that the user needs to install Chromium prior to running the script for it will not attempt to either install or update the browser. The script only...

Re: Debian testing. KERNEL PANIC on boot after libc updates.

Yes, I have reinstalled the system and it is already up and running. I have already resumed the two aborted calculations. All in all, I have only lost half an hour of my time and a few hours of computing time (the calculations need to check what has already been done before actually resuming). I am ...
