Re: youtube-dl broken again !?
After you've installed pip3 install youtube-dl with pip3 install youtube-dl and when youtube or someone else breaks it pip3 install -U youtube-dl Under normal circumstances I'd prefer to only use things from the Debian repository but this needs to be updated more often. Running pip3 as user also ins...

Re: How can I have a sync calendar between Debian and Androi
I've looked into this from time to time and I think the easiest solution is to run your own webdav server because there's tons and tons of android to webdav software out there, and quite some debian to webdav too. It's an extra step but it should be pretty easy to move it to a cloud service too. And...

Re: init diversity in Debian
Someone¹ should make a systemd unit file runtime, so sysV, openRC, and all those, could run unit files. Is the systemd unit file the best of them? Probably not, but there would be a whole lot less work everyone. (Except that someone ^^)

Re: Is there any software you miss that used to be in Debian
Banshee - Mainly use it to search for songs made between year and year.
Gnash - Use the stand alone player for old flash animations.
Tomboy - For shareability between different platforms.
Might be better suited and supported software these days but it's the things I started to use around Jessie.

Not a fan of the Electron client but https://lbry.com/ is pretty nice.
They're also working on a web version https://beta.lbry.tv/

https://packages.debian.org/buster/apulse if you want to run firefox and other without pulseaudio. It works so well I had to check if I had it installed or not.

Re: upgrade to Buster the moment its launched?
I'm usually on Testing but wait a few weeks after launch before I upgrade, hoping for the worst bugs to be identified until then. Same thing if I was running stable. I mean, there will always be a couple of new bugs after release so one can as well wait a bit.

Re: Should Debian 10 default to Wayland?
Depends on how stable Wayland is. Both stable as in "not buggy", but also "stable in development". Will there be large changes in Wayland in the future? If yes, then I say no, it's not suitable to be default. (And yeah, the same goes for Gnome.)

Openbox and tint2 here too.
This seems to be such a common combination so soon it might be a DE in itself

Re: Debian systemd maintainer "taking a break"
Personally I think systemd has the same problem as Gnome these days, things are changing a bit too much, they'd both need a LTS to fit into Debian stable. And I'd be pretty miffed if firefox or something depended on either.
Re: badblocks
I use it to test new (cheap) sd cards and old hard drives.

Re: radeon: The kernel rejected CS (crossing 256MB boundary)
Might not be the same problem but what happens if you downgrade xserver-xorg-core to 2:1.19.6-1? There's some weirdness going on in 2:1.20.0-3 and my problems went away with the downgrade. There's an 1.20.1 upstream so hopefully it will be in testing in a couple of weeks.

Re: What desktop are you using?
i3wm on desktop and laptops. Mostly because I don't like the bloat on DEs. Not that my devices couldn't handle them, but they're just so... fat. :D I use Openbox by the same reason, plus it doesn't change behaviour with every update. I might be running testing, but i prefer my desktop to be stable.

Re: Gemini PDA
They've been a bit bad at explaining detail like the dual boot, but in this video they first shut down android to boot Debian so hopefully it's a true dual boot. I've been looking for something like this for quite a while. I love my Thinkpad X200s but it's a bit big. Been looking at 10" netbook...

Gemini PDA
So I accidentally backed the Gemini PDA on Indigogo. For those who haven't heard of it it's a Psion style pda running android and dualbooting Debian. I've been looking for something smaller with a physical keyboard for quite a while and as long as this ships it looks perfect for me.

Re: Firefox 53 (in Sid) requires Pulse Audio for sound
If I remember it correctly they're leaving the alsa code in for now but they're not updating it. And the plan is to remove it in version 5-something. Until then you can compile it yourself with
Code: Select all
--disable-pulseaudio --enable-alsa
