Re: [Discussion] What change, if implemented, would cause you to leave Debian?
Forced adoption of systemd . . . Agreed. As long as Debian allows me the freedom to use my machines the way I want, with the software I want, without undue interference from proprietary software or corporate overlords, I'll be using some version or derivative of it. The moment that goes away, so do...

Re: [Discussion] Psychoanalysing proponents of two wheels
Many years ago I was driving on northern highway, following a couple on a big road bike (Harley or Goldwing; I can't remember). Everything was smooth driving until a black bear tore up out of a ditch and charged the motorcycle. The biker slammed on his brakes and downshifted raising a lot of dust an...

Re: VirtualBox vs 'another user account'.
I've done both and find virtual to be easier. It can be useful to create a virtual install and then transfer data into it from your host. It's very easy to compare when you have both running. There are some issues, such as hardware, that you can only test with a bootable USB.

Re: Installing a needed package that isn't in Debian repos
Most, if not all, of us have installed a non-Debian package. The important thing to remember is to block the repo after installing. If you leave a source open every time you do an upgrade you can have little surprises sneaking in.

Re: [Off-Topic] Tech nostalgia
Vacuum tube diodes. ... and TV's radios for that matter. Diodes, triodes and a slew of other configurations. My parents had one of those entertainment consoles with AM radio, shortwave and a turntable for records. I loved trolling the shortwave but much of it was in Morse code and unintelligible to...

Re: How to diagnose system "freezes"?
@techsavvy: Did you make any progress ? Negative. Years ago I had a faulty mother board that caused random system freezes. I found it by searching the Internet for that particular mother board looking for problems and freezes came up. Change the cheap stuff first and do the obvious but keep in mind...

Re: [O/S] Deleted in home folder folder
How can i make a new one folder in /home/user/ What have you tried so far? Many years ago I accidentally deleted one of the major directories, /var if memory serves me. I mounted a live CD of another distro and copied its /var directory complete with contents to my installed Debian. It worked. Anot...

Re: [Installation] Archive vs deb, which is better?
For most stuff, use deb. Some things are better not fully installed. For example I have the Tor bundle in my ~/user directory which has no access to anything root. There are programs from non-Debian sources that I want to test without installing that I run as app in ~/user or install to a VM.

Re: [Discussion] So ... Debian 12 ... Nightmare or Glorious Bliss? (or you just wish to post ITT with ellipsis ...)
I'm still using Debian 10. I'm old, my computer is old and I'm using old software. Newer versions of Debian aren't backward compatible with some of my treasured programs. I see no reason to upgrade.

Re: Which non-hp printer for my deb laptops?
Can you turn off the automatic update feature? plug the printer's IP address into your browser and see what comes up. You might be able to access all sorts of settings. I know this will sound counter intuitive but bear with me. We have a Canon MX30. It's old. It's so old that it hasn't been infected...

Re: [O/S] New guy trying to learn :)
Being new to Debian, do yourself a favor and use Stable, at least until you are fairly fluent. You should know that Testing and Unstable are development releases, not upgrades in the true sense of the word. Testing breaks occasionally. That's how developers fix it before the next release. Debian wil...

Neptune may be based on Debian but it is unique. You would be better to ask there.TalionRanger117 wrote: ↑2023-12-05 00:03 hi, how do you turn off power management in neptune os aka debian?

It gives me a problem too. (Using Firefox-esr.) If I remove /maps/radar the site works. https://www.theweathernetwork.com/ca/weather/british-columbia/vancouver works. https://www.theweathernetwork.com/ca/14-day-weather-trend/british-columbia/vancouver?from7day=1 works. https://www.theweathernetwork....
