Re: My sources.list

Thank you for the help. I didn't realize this was such a disaster to do. So I will just resarch this online some more, read that thread and not ask anymore questions.

Thanks again all for your help, much appreciated.

Re: My sources.list

Not really. If you have testing/sid/experimental then you will pull everything from sid, unless there is no sid package available, in which case it will fill the gaps from testing. If you want a sid based install, you need testing too. Having experimental allows individual packages to be explicitly...

Re: My sources.list

What it is doing is getting packages from testing unless there is a newer one from sid. Works out well so far. There is more in testing, so it seems, than there is in sid. I watch it closely and read everything before and after I dist-upgrade. I did have one issue where a program was broken, another...

[SOLVED]My sources.list

How does this look. I have been using this for a few weeks without any issues. Is it too much or too little? You will notice an Ubuntu mirror in there. That is for games. I keep it commented out unless I want to look for a specific game. Works pretty good, though some games won't install which is no...

Re: Torvalds returns to KDE

When I install Debian I do a minimal install. I download the netinstall, put it on my usb card and go from there. After I install kde-full, xfce4-sessions, xfce4-goodies. I am not crazy about kde at all but it works better with XFCE4 for me, KDM also works better then GDM. Not sure why that is. So I...

Re: new user getting "cannot open display"

I had the same issue myself. I could not run, for example, nvidia-settings with su in the terminal. I also couldn't get synaptic to start from the terminal either. I would get that same display issue you got. Same thing happened when I needed a file manager opened as root. gksu as a normal user is a...

Re: [SOLVED] /etc/apt/preferences

Ahhh, ok. So pin-priority for unstable and experimental should be 1, testing take out. Ok this is making more sense to me know. No, the pin-priority of Experimental (and Backports) is 1 unless you change it. That is why a package from Experimental is never a candidate despite being newer than its v...

Re: /etc/apt/preferences

My /etc/apt/preferences.d/pinning Package: * Pin: release unstable Pin-Priority: 1 Package: * Pin: release experimental Pin-Priority: 1 Thanks for this. I tried a few different ways. Finally I started new. I copied yours and added testing, unstable and experimental, changed the numbers. It works no...

[SOLVED] /etc/apt/preferences

Debian Testing/Wheezy 64bit. I want to make sure I am doing this right. I never at all mixed things like this. I understand the risks, so lets skip all of that. Does this look correct for my preferences file? Too much, too little, missing something? Package: * Pin: release a=testing Pin-Priority: 90...

Mana World no Sound

Running Debian Squeeze. Sound works great with everything but Mana World. I checked the volume control and the Mana world application itself is at full and not muted. In game the sound is checked and also the music and it was downloaded. It will tell me that it is playing an .ogg music file in game ...

Re: World of Warcraft Liquid Detail

I've been playing WoW through wine for a while, and there have always been some things that wine cannot match.. For whatever reason, even though the opengl engine you run supports those extra liquid details, and no doubt your graphics card can, wine or WoW refuse to allow you to increase it, saying...

World of Warcraft Liquid Detail

Is there a way I can get the liquid detail any better then low? I would be happy with just fair. Has anyone succeeded in doing this? I am using Debian Squeeze, latest Nvidia drivers for my GT220 and the wine version I am using is 1.5.5 I will probably update to the latest development release of wine...

Re: Legally Owned movies, series. Best way to back up to dvd

Many of my devices will not recognise the MKV container, nor H.264. I still use the .AVI container with XVID video and MP3 audio only because it is the only combination that I can play on all my devices (including both Windows and Linux computers, Android tablets and eBook readers, and my DVD playe...

[SOLVED] Frets on Fire Full Screen problem

I downloaded Frets on Fire, all things work perfectly except the resolution. In the videos settings I have 1440x900 and full screen. But when I run the game it has a little window and the rest is black. I know I have had this running at full screen, without the black, before. Does anyone know what s...
