Re: install from second partition on usb-stick

Of course I don't need two partitions. What I wanted to do is to boot the installer from the filesystem on the first partition (i.e. the iso-file sits in the filesystem) and I tried to make it boot via grub as above. This is quite easily possible with other linux distros (even ubuntu). There you can...

Re: install from second partition on usb-stick

Have you installed GRUB to the MBR of the stick? Doe the first partition have /boot and /boot/grub? Yes. Yes, using the hd-media: How then? I have unsuccessfully tried to use it in my previous attempts to boot directly the iso file from a filesystem on the usb-stick, The iso-file for the debian ins...

install from second partition on usb-stick

Hi, I need to install Debian on a new system and don't want to dd the installer to my usb-stick as I have data on that. So I've shrunk the filesystem on my usb-stick and created a second partition and then installed grub on the usb-stick. Then I dd-ed the installer to the second partition and create...

Re: setting a static route

I suspend with "systemctl hibernate" and I am baffled that the routing tables are gone when I resume. However the interface is up when I resume so I guess in a systemd-script I simply have to set the route again - it's easy enough to do but I was just wondering if you really need this... A...

setting a static route

Hi, I am running testing and would like to configure a static route that should always be available. Currrently I have this in my /etc/network/interfaces: iface enp2s0 inet dhcp dns-nameserver 8.8.8.8 up ip route add 10.10.10.0/24 via 192.168.0.10 down ip route del 10.10.10.0/24 via 192.168.0.10 And...

can I watch netflix in fullhd?

Hi, after I long time I subscribed to netflix again but I cannot get it to work on my Debian testing system. With firefox it basically works, however not in full-hd and with google chrome it does not work at all. I've seen many claims that netflix should work on linux with chrome now but when I try ...

nvidia card not recognized as opencl device

Hi, I am running testing with kernel 5.9.0-3 and have a Nvidia GT 1030. I had this working with a previous kernel-version but currently my GPU is not recognized as an opencl-device (it works fine as graphics card). clinfo only shows my CPU. I have nvidia-opencl-icd installed - what else do I need? M...

To quote myself: "I run testing with the propietary nvidia drivers, lightdm and i3 and hibernate with "systemctl hibernate", so no kde and no screenlocker.

Re: qemu/kvm: which VM's are running

Strange, sudo should not be needed. On my system all files (both the xml-files and the storage-files) are owned by root, yet I can run virsh without sudo. My account is only member of the libvirt group but not of the libvirt-qemu group, that is the only difference I can see but I very much doubt tha...

Re: install from iso on usb stick

Interesting tool. I did not know that...

But still, I don't want to start over with my stick, the grub-entries are normally not that hard for the iso (and you learn something when you write them).

It's just this debian installer that is finicky....

Re: qemu/kvm: which VM's are running

Your account needs to be in the "libvirt" user group.

Then you can run virsh without sudo.

hibernation/resume issue with nvidia-card

Hi, I have an old PC where I used an integrated gpu for many years without problems. Then I added a GT 1030 and now I have a strange problem when my system resumes from hibernation. With my old gpu I got straight back into my graphical session when resuming, however with the new card all I get is a ...

install from iso on usb stick

Hi, I've tried this before but gave up, so now I am having another go at it. I have an usb-stick that is ext2-formatted and has a subdirectory "/iso". In that iso-directory I have several bootable iso-image (tails, knoppix etc). The stick itself has grub installed and has entries in grub.c...

Or throw that POS card away and buy something decent instead (ie, anything not made by NVIDIA).
This card (I only need it as an opencl device) has extended the lifetime of my 10 year old PC by at least a year.

Re: lightdm does no longer start after kernel-upgrade

Not sure if this is the way to do it, but this is what I did (for my reference when I upgrade the kernel again): First I tried "dkms install -m nvidia-current -v 450.80.02 -k 5.9.0-3-amd64". That should build the module only for this one kernel but failed with the above error. Then I insta...

Re: lightdm does no longer start after kernel-upgrade

It's in the output above:
Building for 5.6.0-1-amd64 5.9.0-3-amd64
these are the two kernels I have currently installed. The 5.9 is where I have the problem.

Re: lightdm does no longer start after kernel-upgrade

I've tried to run "dpkg-reconfigure nvidia-kernel-dkms". It seems to work for my old (5.6) kernel, but fails for the new kernel. I assume this is the problem - how can I fix that? The output is: Loading new nvidia-current-450.80.02 DKMS files... Building for 5.6.0-1-amd64 5.9.0-3-amd64 Bui...
