Re: trying to set up SSD Optimizations
I have a similar entry in fstab for /tmp While re-reading SSDOptimization I came across the notice "/!\ You might also want to be aware of Summary: Moving /tmp to tmpfs makes it useless " Even though it's older than the original article -- SSDs aren't what they used to be... don't need to ...

Re: trying to set up SSD Optimizations
In an attempt to set up SSD Optimizations (not blacklisted) i followed this instruction https://wiki.debian.org/SSDOptimization#Reduction_of_SSD_write_frequency_via_RAMDISK Although that article has recently received some needed update tweaks: https://wiki.debian.org/SSDOptimization?action=info Muc...

Re: Is debian 11 updated automatically with security patches?
blindly upgrading a system could be an atomic upgrade Which is why, I believe, most/many/all Linux OSs don't just blindly upgrade(?) As mentioned, unattended-upgrade works for blindly upgrading a system. Really, upgrading Debian stable (even testing) is reasonably reliable and basic home users, like...

Re: CPU configuration & proc
I have had a dual-socket mother board in the past (way back to Pentium II). It's new the reference of multi-processor refer to more than one actual CPU mounted on the board. Nevertheless /proc/cpuinfo is likely using the core or virtual process equates to a processor or cpu. You may have a different...

Re: CPU configuration & proc
Then why are there sometimes four, sometimes eight total "processor 0-7" each with 4 cores depending on OS? The processor is in an interconnect. I've checked proc on other computers and it doesn't look like this. Cores aren't threads. Each cpu you say is a core-thread has its own MHZ? Tha...

@djk44883 thanks for reply, if you mean have latest cinnamon desktop available also in stable via backports I don't have enough time to do and test also it :( mint specific (like mintwelcome) even if someone request them I think is not good have them in debian, I'm wrong? back-port WOW, that would ...

Re: Settings window too high and can't save/close
Usually the ALT-drag works for me, on a mate-desktop. Another less reliable method is the TAB key to cycle through the buttons... but you only kind of hope the OK is the first one you can't see - it's a trial and error method.

Re: Debian 11 mate caja strange sorting order
I use mate-desktop and struggle with this. Dot files are not always sorted first anymore - that's just wrong! I don't have/know the fix - as noted, I believe it does have something to do whit language settings, locales, and/or internationalization configurations. Once I may have figured it out, then...

Re: Debian bullseye and cinnamon
A couple years later we get a clearer understanding what happened with Cinnamon and Debian. Thanks Fantu for all your effort and work you contribute to projects! I have become comfortable, maybe complacence, with MATE desktop. I like the somewhat simplicity of MATE and Cinnamon. Cinnamon is polished...

Re: [Solved] Debian package search engine gone on firefox 78
Several months, and versions later - have you been able to restore a debian package search option to firefox's options?
I too noticed it missing. I still have "search debian man pages" but can not get or find a way to add an option to install a package search.

Re: new kernel 5.6 and I cannot boot, but I could on 5.3
You're right the man page explain how/what the command does - that's it. Not necessarily how or why to use it. Debian does have an extensive documentation, - https://www.debian.org/doc//manuals/debian-handbook/index.en.html "Debian 10 The Debian Administrator's Handbook Debian Buster from Disco...

Re: new kernel 5.6 and I cannot boot, but I could on 5.3
I am 100% sure dist-upgrade is correct on debian. (but very dangerous on Ubuntu if you have experience there). If dist-upgrade breaks your debian, then you did not follow the anti franken debian best practices. run man apt-get Yes, I read the man page, where it says it can add new and remove some. ...

Re: new kernel 5.6 and I cannot boot, but I could on 5.3
If you're running stable... and want to keep things stable isn't "best practice" apt get upgrade / apt-get upgrade ? I think you mean # apt-get update && apt-get upgrade First post says they did dist-upgrade ? Suggest they used apt-get (dated). I was showing examples for either at...

Re: new kernel 5.6 and I cannot boot, but I could on 5.3
If you're running stable... and want to keep things stable isn't "best practice" apt get upgrade / apt-get upgrade ?
Because apt full-upgrade / apt-get dist-upgrade, not only upgrades but installs new and it may remove some. note: install new is not upgrade already installed.

I may have similar struggles. I don't have a fix, just some notes - "Dell Mobility Radeon" This is a laptop? It has an Intel processor, with onboard (discrete) graphics? You just show lspci for the radeon, so I don't know if you do or don't have to video "cards". Just because you...

I have seen that there is a repository for Testing security updates too, is this option for faster security updates? If this is referring to http://security-cdn.debian.org/debian-security/dists/bullseye-security/ Then I don't believe so. It's my understanding, it's there as part of the structure......

This ~/ is the same as this /home/username when you're logged in as root user or running something as root, the root user acct has it's own /home directory. So what you were doing was sending hi world to /home/root/Documents not your normal users Documents directory. Yep no worries this type of thi...
