Where is gpg.conf in Debain?

Is it normal that the "gpg.conf" file isn't located in "~./gnupg" on Debian? Today I finally wanted to repair the problem that I can't connect to any keyservers any longer. It seems the European GDPR caused many keyservers to be not available any more. But some seem to have switc...

Re: Bonkers Gnome

My problems with the UX decisions in GNOME 3+ aren't because it's minimalistic by default, they're because it's minimalistic or GTFO. You argue as if you would be forced to use it. I use it because I like the default and the few things I can alter are satisfying and not much work. Of course I could...

Re: Bonkers Gnome

I have chosen to use GNOME 3 when Debian made it the default. At first it was strange and I didn't really like it. But it took me only maybe some days to get used to it. Back then it was still slow and it had less features compared to GNOME 2. But I instantly loved the sparse interface which only ev...

Re: What does your REAL desktop look like?

Is it a Expansion Cirago HDD on your sofa?..I ve just got that same disk this week :o Sorry for the very late reply: The 5TB drive is one of my backup drives. I actually use it with Backintime and put encrypted backups from four different systems on it. But it isn't usually sitting on the sofa. I n...

Nautilus progress bar doesn't show total progress

I am using Debian Buster and I am often bewildered by the fact that Nutilus' progress bar covers only part of the time it takes to copy large files. This often leads to the effect that I am waiting for a file to be copied to a drive and that I can't unmount it again before not only the progress bar ...

Re: What does your REAL desktop look like?

I guess early thirties. I'm curious. I'm actually 45. But I love riding my bycicle, do some yoga and some body weight training. This so far kept me fit enough. I usually find it much harder to sit all day long on a normal chair. But if it was a nicely done spot it might be comfortable. I actually d...

Re: For how many years have you been using GNU/Linux?

In 2008 I needed a new system and wanted to avoid Windows Vista. Therefore, I ordered an Acer Extensa 5220 with Linplus Linux pre-installed. I expected I could reduce complexity by ordering a laptop where GNU/Linux is installed already. Unfortunately, this system didn't even feature a desktop. After...

Re: What does your REAL desktop look like?

man, you live in there ? :D dont you scare to get in fires¿? I wouldn't really say I "live" in this corner, but if I consider how much time I spend there I guess it isn't the wrong word in the end. But heat is the reason why I place running laptops like tents if I don't directly...

Re: What does your REAL desktop look like?

This is the corner I sit in. I usually have my laptop on a wooden board. http://freidenk.net/img/20210819_sofa.jpg I see myself as a minimalist but I have to admit that this image doesn't look like it at all. At least it is very comfy. :D Today I updated my old ThinkPad T40 and the ThinkPad R50 to B...

ThinkPad T40 [Firmware Bug]: Invalid BIOS _PSS frequency

I am uncertain if this boot error (it comes up several times during the boot routine on my ThinkPad T40) has an performance impact at all but does anyone know how this Bios problem might be overcome?: [Firmware Bug]: ACPI: Invalid BIOS _PSS frequency found for processor 0: 0x0 MHz I suspect this ker...

Re: Should Debian Buster work on Asus EeePC 1015px?

Well, if I pull in dependencies then those desktops aren't as light weight any more. But I just found out that I had outdated information. Trojitá should actually be capable of using GnuPG. But I also found some windows in LXQt 0.7 that are cropped and it is rather annoying to try to move them aroun...

Re: Should Debian Buster work on Asus EeePC 1015px?

Thank you for your answers. I have now tried live non-free versions of Debian Buster with GNOME, LXDE, MATE and Xfce. MATE and Xfce couldn't shrink all of the windoes to the small screen and therefore are not good choices. GNOME was to heavy. Qt doesn't seem to have a small footprint mail client tha...

Should Debian Buster work on Asus EeePC 1015px?

I have an Asus EeePC 1015px I ran Lubuntu 18.04 on because I figured I would need proprietary drivers anyway. But nevertheless the sound card did never work properly. The best I could achieve was to enable sound using a headphone. Therefore I decided to try Lubuntu 20.04. After installing it the thi...

Re: Nostalgia ... qualities of very old ThinkPads

I have had the impression in recent years that all the Lenovo laptops I got my hands on had very poor build quality. But this might also be due to the fact that most people buy the cheaper models. And the older devices I mentioned didn't come cheap at the time.

Re: Nostalgia ... qualities of very old ThinkPads

for your freeze problems make sure the CPU (Intel?) µcode is installed. Thanks for the hint. However, I suspect this isn't the issue because the Technoethical supporter has taken it apart twice and I expect this is something he would have thought of. I fear it is more related to the fact that I got...

Nostalgia ... qualities of very old ThinkPads

I have some old Thinkpads (R50 and T40) from about 2003 at home as backup systems if somebody urgently needs a laptop. (It gets clearer every day that nobody around me wants to use those old devices any more – even in an emergency.) I keep them updated with Debian Buster LXDE. And each time I do the...

Re: Sudo or not sudo?

I'm using Debian 10 (Buster) on different systems. And to my knowledge nothing has changed regarding the "sudo" command. You still can get it by not creating a root user. I think the installer is very clear about this. But as ever: you can only make an informed decision if you mindfully re...

Why is Stunt Rally not in Debian?

I have searched around a little but couldn't find an answer so far. Does anybody here know why Stunt Rally isn't available in the Debian repository? I found a wish list entry but it seems nothing came of it for about six years. Is this probably just a lack of someone willing (or able) to do the pack...

Re: Vokoscreen without video and webcam busy

I tried simplescreenrecorder too and get exactly the same result: I have sound but get only a black screen as video. Obviously there is something I am missing. I just red on the simplescreenrecorder web page in the trouble shoot section that I should login without using Wayland. And it worked instan...

Indeed:

Code: Select all

wayland
simplescreenrecorder
Thank you for the tip. I will try as soon as I am on the system again. :D
