Do you want a technically accurate answer? Or are you willing to settle for an answer someone just pulled out of their ass?

I trust my point is obvious, even to you.

Re: phpmyadmin: Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost'

More then likely it is this: From : https://askubuntu.com/questions/763336/cannot-enter-phpmyadmin-as-root-mysql-5-7 Yep, that solved the problem! "That" = the #5 hit at Google using the exact search that I pointed you to two days ago, but you were too farqing lazy even to click . So much...

Ooooo. Chastised by a sock puppet. I'm crushed.

(Do I win a prize if I guess who's behind the sock puppet account? Because I'm pretty sure I can.)

Re: LILO: BIOS Data Check. What does it mean?

I see you've been spamming multiple forums with this inane question, and that one of the replies you received over at the Ubuntu forums was this: Personally, I think you would have more luck contacting the developers or Debian maintainers, or at least posting in a mailing list related to LILO. Inste...

Re: phpmyadmin: Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost'

So where is the problem? The root problem lies in your failure to do a simple search before posting a forum question: The verbatim title you chose for your thread returns over 100K answers to the question: https://www.google.com/search?q=phpmyadmin%3A+Access+denied+for+user+%27root%27%40%27localhos...

Re: Newer version of Kodi

For the benefit of others stumbling on this thread someday...

Unless someone is prepared to provide a CVE, I'm not prepared to believe that the problem is in Kodi itself. Everything I've seen says that It's the media players, not the platform itself, that are vulnerable.

maybe it was the previous owner: I was thinking about this, and decided that there is indeed a way that "prior owner" could be a plausible and non-nefarious scenario. (Proof positive that I can self-correct ) If I were a realllllly disgruntled employee and wanted to blow up my fo...

I confess that I'd not heard of ecosia before.

Just tried their image search feature. Better than Google's, and WAY better than Startpage.

Thanks for the tip, arochester

Well, at least I know which direction I need to head next. Wayyyyyyy better than beating your head against the wall trying to resurrect the rotting corpse of a long-dead Debian release. Hopefully the next install will be much smoother. Maybe. It's been a while since I tested MX, but IIRC, there wer...

Yes. We were posting at the same time.

By far the single best newbie-friendly light Linux is MX Linux https://mxlinux.org/

See my immediately previous post for reasons why.

Okay, I hope I've landed at the right joint. Only you will be able to decide that. Long story short: I need some serious help before my patience is obliterated and therefore my psyche and I'm thrown into a homicidal rage. Everytime I try something I run into another brick wall and I don't know what...

Oh good, someone who thinks they can bluff their way through. maybe it was the previous owner: I took over this box. That leads us back to the "awesome psychic powers" explanation, where the original owner was able to correctly predict the codename of Debian 9.x at a point in time when th...

it is a form of trolling i guess. Maybe let's just call it what it is: lying. This OP has a long history of not being able to configure samba correctly. For the sed part: A . is a wildcard that matches any character, you need to escape it with a \ to match an actual . There's one method. Single quotes also work for creating a file name with spaces in Debian: touch 'a dotted filename' There's another. Wow, for something that "can't be done,&quo...

I'd be interested to know others' thoughts. The only folks who are 'safe' are those who design, engineer, and fab...

Re: change a character in filename to another

Speaking of people who have a long history of giving bad answers... creating a filename of ;rm -rf / is blocked for obvious reasons. Certainly not for the reason you seem to imply. The utterly innocuous ls -l / is "blocked" for exactly the same "reason" I'll say it again, people ...
