Re: Compiz in Debian testing.
Believe it or not, Compiz still works smoothly under Debian Testing :) Yesterday I felt nostalgic for it. Google led me to Arch pages as usual. I grabbed Arch PKGBUILD files and patches for Compiz-0.9.12.2 and Emerald-0.9.5 and started the hard job of patching, changing and compiling without much h...

Re: Compiz in Debian testing.
Compiz-0.8.12.3 is even better and completely functional under Debian Testing. It has the blur effect, which is disabled in v0.9.12.2.

Re: NitroShare on Debian
I don't know about NitroShare but sni-qt will be needed on Debian (https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepo ... bug=712938). It isn't just for Unity.stevepusser wrote:What's the point of sni-qt? Isn't just something to translate qt systray to Unity appindicators?

Re: Any way to install GNOME 3.8 on debian sid?
Backup images and remastering are surely good. For example, I use them for putting my Debian on other computers. Especially, config backups are necessary sometimes. The problem with re-installing or restoring a whole image is twofold: (1) In many cases, the problems reappear because they aren't rela...

Problem with Akonadi
Debian's Akonadi-1.10.3 apparently has some problems. For now, I compiled and installed Akonadi-1.10.80 with its Ubuntu debian folder (I had to change the dependency mysql-client-core-5.5 to mysql-client-5.5) and everything seems OK.

Re: Slow Dolphin startup
BTW, it's better to remove two config files after upgrading to KDE-4.11, namely, ~/.kde/share/config/kwinrc and ~/.kde/share/config/kwin.notifyrc. Before removing them (from outside KDE), I encountered several problems relating to compositing and kwin CPU usage. After that, the problems disappeared ...

I have the UDisks2 and KSambaSharePrivate messages and Dolphin starts quickly.
Try to back up and then remove '~/.kde/share/config/dolphinrc'.

Re: Any way to install GNOME 3.8 on debian sid?
What exactly are the systemd dependencies of gnome 3.8 ? Debian's init system isn't systemd (yet) but gnome-3.8 presupposes it. Hence the lack of hibernation from inside gnome-shell, at least. This isn't a gnome problem though. Hopefully there are a lot of improvements 'under the hood'. The Javascr...

Just for those who have encountered the same problem with gdm3-3.8.4-2:
Install libpam-systemd and disable autologin.

Re: [SOLVED] Xserver fails after upgrade - Debian Sid Gnome
For me too, installation of libpam-systemd fixed the problem.
BTW, if libpam-systemd is installed on your system and gdm still doesn't work, try to disable autologin.

The problem should be fixed with the next updates. Posting a Debian bug report would be a good idea.otas.pe wrote:I have same problem, I sent the post here:

Re: Any way to install GNOME 3.8 on debian sid?
After 3 months, I restarted into my Gnome-based Debian, used dist-upgrade with Unstable, and GDM was just a blank screen: only the mouse cursor was visible (with the latest nvidia). WDM works though.

Re: Synaptic in QT?
You might want to try Apper - it is qt backend to packagekit ... Today, I tried Apper, which was installable with apt. Apart from a bug related to CPU usage, it was far behind Synaptic. For example, with Synaptic, you could maneuver between repositories without reloading; with Apper, you couldn't. ...

Re: Any way to install GNOME 3.8 on debian sid?
I often need to access the tray with mouse (to open my notes manager) but each time, I have to wait one long second because of a "feature" the Gnome dev added to v3.6 and has kept with 3.8. Guess what, in 3.10 to access the tray we'll have to click a button... http://worldofgnome.org/a-ne...

Re: Any way to install GNOME 3.8 on debian sid?
I restarted to my newly updated Gnome-3.8 today for updating one of my themes at gnome-looks.org and saw that not only the many flaws in the Gnome dev's work aren't fixed, some new ones are added to them. Apart from the huge memory leak, which they'd promised would be fixed in 3.8, GTK+ is getting w...

Re: Any way to install GNOME 3.8 on debian sid?
They can be used with v3.8 too, perhaps with some modification. I don't think an extension could be used instead of them. Ah, thanks. It looks like 3.8 also has TRAY_DWELL_TIME etc. in messageTray.js so at least this issue can be circumvented by changing those lines. But since we're modifying Gnome...
