Re: 4.14.0-3 kernel dropped my CPU speed?

no its nothing to do with the meltdown patch (which is both kernel and microcode) this is throttling not just a performance drop.

it seems the latest kernel implements bios-overriding power-saving, which could have latency issues but should save on the power bill.

Re: 4.14.0-3 kernel dropped my CPU speed?

kernel parameters seem to fix it, but still annoying the kernel overrides the bios....

Code: Select all

processor.max_cstate=1 intel_idle.max_cstate=1

4.14.0-3 kernel dropped my CPU speed?

Just upgraded the kernel to 4.14.0-3 in Sid and noticed "grep MHz /proc/cpuinfo" and lscpu are showing various values from 1GHz to 3.3GHz depending on load, as you'd expect on a laptop using cpufreq governors or somesuch. The thing is, this is a desktop Xeon X3470 2.9GHz overclocked to 3.3...

Re: MTP devices are visible in file manager after disconnect

seeing this too on sid, replied to the bug. assume its the 1.30 to 1.31-1 upgrade in October and it wasn't fixed in December's 1.31-2

killing and restarting gvfs-mtp-volume-monitor "fixes" it easier than rebooting.

Re: gvfs ignores ssh-agent - SSH_AUTH_SOCK not set in dbus e

did you ever find a solution to this?

i'm having a related problem where nautilus' open-in-terminal facility is not preserving SSH_AUTH_SOCK so i need to figure out where to put "dbus-update-activation-environment SSH_AUTH_SOCK SSH_AGENT_PID"

Re: Wheezy Freezing Occasionally (Except Mouse) Gnome 3 GUI

Pulseaudio work around didn't help at all here, I don't think this is pulseaudio related at all. After doing some research on this issue, AFAIK this issue is related to gnome-shell javascript deadlocks, because of the of libmozjs (spidermonkey) that wheezy has. These versions libmozjs (prior to ver...

Re: Wheezy Freezing Occasionally (Except Mouse) Gnome 3 GUI

Still no single lock up on my system with the pulseaudio workaround. Give it a try. I am not sure whether it is a pulseaudio problem, but after i edited the /etc/pulse/daemon.conf file and changed the "high-priority"and "realtime-scheduling"options to "no",the problem d...

Re: Wheezy Freezing Occasionally (Except Mouse) Gnome 3 GUI

i'm seeing this the last couple of days on an nvidia desktop (not laptop) using proprietary 308/325 and nouveau. only workaround is to use gnome-classic mode. filemanager is not handling the desktop. gnome-shell 3.4.2-12 on sid with 3.10 kernel. what's this pulseaudio workaround? that said, my syste...

Re: [SOLVED] Random Frequent Crashes on Wheezy

i'm seeing this myself the last few days on Sid and its on a desktop not a laptop, so not a suspend/swap issue. i was using the nvidia 304 drivers and i tried the beta 325 drivers and am now on nouveau, neither helped. so far the only fix (i think) is to use gnome-classic mode instead of the full gn...

Re: Brown icons?

gnome-dust isn't installed:

Code: Select all

 aptitude show gnome-dust-icon-theme
Package: gnome-dust-icon-theme
New: yes
State: not installed
it only seems to be the directory icons (in Icedove too) and possibly the Terminal and Files icons are larger.

Brown icons?

Just did an update to my Sid install and it looks like gnome-icon-themes just changed all my Nautilus/Iceweasel folder icons to Ubuntu-brown! Anyone else seeing this? brown.png Is this Gnome's new default (part of 3.8.2 that seems to be trickling in?) or did some n00buntu packager get upload privs o...

Re: First to break Jessie wins!

I guess something like gnome-greeter is broken as I just boot to a bunch of "ACPID: client disconnected messages" as of just now. switching to a TTY and running startx gets me into gnome just fine, booting into 3.8 kernel doesn't fix it, so its not nvidia drivers, 3.9 kernel or gnome3. not...

is anyone else getting no thumbnails of any sort from nautilus - not just totem-video-thumbnailer, but no pdf, jpeg, txt etc. also arduino-mk 0.10-2 seems a bit weird, ARDUINO_LIBS needs to be set to something (anything lol!) for the compile to complete. oh and nfs3 support seems to be broken in /et...

-m stands for module, usually you see with with "-m state" for the state machine module (now deprecated in favour of cstate).

never seen "-m tcp" and probably pointless

Re: How to clone an encrypted Debian?

just run dd from a livecd on the encrypted partitions (i wouldn't bother with clonezilla as it will try to mount and/or unlock the partitions) just dd the entire disk to an image to a usb drive or something, or even to another blank hard disk. a mixture of lvm and luks is just going to be a pain to ...

Re: Attaching a 3 TB usb disk to Squeeze (shows up as 800GB)

It sounds like you need to follow their advice and see their support article about the Intel RST driver. This has nothing to do with partitioning or Debian, it is about your machine's BIOS's ability to use the drive. After you understand what is going on, use the Seagate DiscWizard software to inst...
