Well, that's the thing. There are a few things about microkernels that haven't been really fixed yet. They're usually a bit slower and a bit harder to debug. That said, I still think microkernels are going to increase in popularity over the next few years. With organisations such as NICTA doing work...

Is this getting upgraded Mono packages or newly installed Mono packages? If it's an upgrade, you might want to try using apt-get --reinstall install libmono-addins-gui0.2-cil to see if there's some file that was accidentally deleted. I've searched bugs.debian.org on libmono-addins-gui0.2-cil and cou...

I think, mono means "only one part". So, I assume that, monolithic kernels are made of only one executable file. On my system [Etch 4.0] this is the file named: vmlinuz-2.6.18-5-686 . I am writing this, because I am starting to doubt that I have all the concepts turned upside down! Yes, i...

It may be some leftover Knoppix script that's still running.

Are there any packages on the system whose names start with 'knoppix-'?

The compiled kernel binary is in /boot, as was mentioned. The source code for the kernel is not installed by default.

When it gets to the point 'Configuring mono-gac...' what errors display there? The part of the log you've copied is only dpkg's end summary of things.

But if any part of a monolithic kernel, e.g. network driver, process scheduler, etc. has a flaw, suddenly an attacker can gain access to the entire kernel. There's no protection against writing into another driver's space, there's nothing stopping raw hardware access to any component. In a microkern...

Stupid biased bash authors... :P

And? Many text editors can use emacs keybindings, doesn't make them emacs...

Therefore, when we use bash, we use emacs keybindings, not emacs. Not only that, but most people don't use too many of those keybindings on a daily basis.

edbarx: microkernels are MORE secure, because crashing one driver won't crash the whole system - that's a security issue too. Exploiting a buffer overrun in one driver can't affect any other driver or program, making holes less useful. Lavene: that's the problem... but progress is being made there w...

In a microkernel, the kernel itself only does the very lowest level of management, and doesn't actually provide anything, except the mechanism for something else to provide things. Kernels run in kernel mode, where they have pretty much absolute control over everything. Therefore, if there's a secur...

Because you're only defining functions without actually calling any code.

In any case, your code looks very messed up. What is it you're actually trying to do?

Have you played around with system colour settings recently? If so, you may have changed Iceweasel's default background to grey, which is probably worth changing since many other sites don't explicitly specify a background.
