To each his own, I like Devuan, and what it stands for... No problems so far with Beta Stable.

Re: How to auto enable numlock on GDM login screen?

Head_on_a-Stick and the arch wiki are right on the money. Put this in your .xinitrc and get rid of GDM, you need it like another hole in the head. numlockx & save/exit/reboot My .xinitrc: firefox & setxkbmap -option terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp xsetroot -solid black unclutter -idle 2 & numloc...

cursors and update-alternatives

Installed comic sans cursor (comixcursors-righthanded), did update-alternatives --all, updatedb, rebooted, and did not get comic sans, but my default one. What am I doing wrong?

Re: Shutdown hanging

I just updated to Jessie today, left systemd installed on purpose (later on i will nuke it).

No problems with shutting down or rebooting the machine.

I use:

Code: Select all

# halt -p
# reboot

Re: Upgrade from 6 to 7.5?

First thing i would do is to change my /etc/apt/sources.list as root and leave it looking similar to this: deb http://ftp.ca.debian.org/debian/ wheezy main non-free contrib deb-src http://ftp.ca.debian.org/debian/ wheezy main non-free contrib deb http://security.debian.org/ wheezy/updates main contr...

Re: Graphical Interface : Will this make me get rid of Linux

Ultimately, you have to live with yourself. If you're not happy, NOBODY around you will be happy.
Let Linus and the nvidia dickheads work it out. Get the mac and be happy, or use Stable like me, but mine is an integrated intel one.

Launch the terminal, become root and type this:

Code: Select all

# halt -p

Re: KDE startx is not loading.

I don't use kde/gnome, but try putting this in your .xinitrc:

Code: Select all

startkde
and then try 'startx' in the console OR 'startkde (this is a shot in the dark)

Re: makes you THINK.....

You can imagine my level of frustration whenever I would mess-up something. Or whenever something went wrong! It used to be that I had to do a re-install, now I find myself "Googling" for answers and fixing a lot of it. Like who knows how many others around the World, I'll just keep learn...

Re: Applications of more users in the same display

Re: rtl18168f-1.fw needed

My bad: you you should install firmware-linux-nonfree reboot. The font size is no biggie, config it from your browser, if you are using iceweasel/firefox, click on Edit/Preferences/Content/Advanced and increase font size in the 3 options. Your /etc/apt/sources.list should look someting like this (no...

Re: xfce, laptop, wifi suddenly being problematic

Never owned a laptop but second-hand desktops, what error does it give you? Have you installed all the firmware you're supposed to? $ apt-cache search firmware You get a long list of firmware, here's a small sample: atmel-firmware - Firmware for Atmel at76c50x wireless networking chips. bluez-firmwa...
