conary isnt that new....and apt isn't just sitting idle, not being improved so IMO apt is miles ahead and no matter what 'grand idea' comes out it will have to work hard to catch up because apt has them beat on experience first and foremost. plus trying to make a package manager completely idiot-pro...

Love the quote.... I dont even think he is eccentric. I was just ranting away because I fear that one person here cannot manage to figure out that free software isn't a absolute 'everything free right now' but at the same time it is not 'only when convenient' either. I find it funny that a company (...

conary is slow though....seems like it has to query and build and update just to tell you a package doesnt exist or you left off a option or something. :D

I bet he doesnt even use a phone since the network is run with non-free software. I bet he doesn't flush a toilet because the waste management system uses non-free software. I bet he would never use a hospital since a lot of the devices have non-free code. He should just use GNU (hurd) on everything...

It seems that RMS would have more pressing concerns then listening to stuff... maybe updating that hyper political website of his and writing his next speech? Or working on some new software for GNU? Just curious, is Hurd even usable with Debian? I dont think RMS is nearly as one track as you seem ...

I do not know, you are the principled man then I, what do you say? Since you seem to consider RMS to be lacking in a practical sense when it comes to free software, I thought that would of been a easy question. I am simply asking what YOU think he would do... AH, go on Dean. I never said such regar...

I asked for resources/help Uh no....actually the only question you ASKED was the one with the question mark which is... Why doesn't Debian have such utility? and that is what I specifically answered. As far as offering 'something else' as a answer, it would be moronic to do otherwise. You could ask...

That partition table looks a bit messy IMO. I think it is time for a wipe clean and start over, windows could probably use a fresh install anyway.

Can't say much about a format/package type itself. And the one or two (rpm) distros I have tried lately seemed to handle packages just fine. That being said, yum was horribly slow and smart while faster worries me about what type of conflicts it *seems* to allow. I personally do feel that apt is the...
