Re: Kde 4.8.3 is in the qt-kde repo
I installed it yesterday and i've encountered no problems so far. Hopefully the rest of KDE 4.8 will arrive soon in the experimental repository.

Re: KDE Trinity
I never was that interested in Trinity but after reading this blog post by Martin Graesslin i doubt i'll ever try it - http://blog.martin-graesslin.com/blog/2012/02/having-a-look-at-the-oldnew-desktop-environments/ . I'm currently using KDE 4 and i'm very happy with it. If my hardware was not fast e...

Re: Why people on Linux related forums under-estimate hardwa
I'm not sure that i agree. Debian's default desktop is GNOME and on my old desktop PC (Athlon XP 2200+, 512 MB RAM, NVidia FX 5200) Debian 6 with GNOME was just slow. On I am "P III with 256 ram ( I use 512 mb as swap )" i bet it would be too slow. I'm talking about the default install of ...

Re: MPlayer Blue Skin
You can also use the normal mplayer. If you configure it through its text configuration file it should be OK. You'll only need to learn several keyboard shortcuts which are the same for the mplayer gui anyway.

Re: What desktop/window manager do you use?
Up until GNOME 3 came out i used GNOME. The GNOME 2.x series was the best desktop environment for me. While some found its configuration options somewhat limited, it had all the configuration options for me and all the functionalities i need (and then some more). Also it was very fast on my system a...

Re: Is Gnome3 Jumping the Shark?
Supposedly the 4.x-5.x transition will be a lot smoother than the 3.x-4.x one.Even now, I really like KDE 4.6, but hell no I am not going to use it between now and 5.0, BECAUSE I ALREADY KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN KDE HITS 5.0, JUST LIKE WE ALREADY KNEW WHAT WOULD HAPPEN WITH GNOME 3.0!

Re: What does your desktop look like?
I don't use either of those plugins, so I can't say. I try to keep the plugins to a minimum since the netbook is underpowered. There was a Rhythmbox update this weekend, so maybe some of your problems have been addressed. I noticed the problem with the lyrics plugin soon after Squeeze was released....

Re: Installing KDE 4.7 packages from Kubuntu
I think the changes mainly have to do with where testing is. For example around when Squeeze was released, my unstable laptop had almost exactly the same packages as my stable desktop. So if testing is frozen, I don't think bigger changes get into unstable. (this is my guess anyways) I think that t...

Re: Installing KDE 4.7 packages from Kubuntu
Sometimes the Debian developers wait until KDE has settled down. Based on kubuntu, 4.7 brought in some big changes (kmail2) and lots of people including me have had some major problems (my kubuntu laptop would spiral into an akonadi process linked to kmail2 which consumed my entire swap space, cras...

With the xorg and the nvidia drivers from Unstable everything seems to be fine at last. I'm using Debian Unstable with KDE 4.6.5.

I wouldn't try that. Installing packages from Ubuntu and not just several packages but an entire set of packages like KDE is asking for trouble.

Re: Do you agree that Linux should use UEFI to its advantage
Historically Linux has supported whatever it can - that is, unless there has been some specific legal reason, linux has supported whatever it technically can. Even now linux is one of the operating systems that support the most diverse hardware. So i think that if support for UEFI in Linux is possib...
