Re: [SOLVED]Not ask password in Dolphin when it opens partit

Hi, I had a similar issue in nautilus, and found I had to edit the file /usr/share/polkit-1/actions/org.freedesktop.udisks2.policy as well as the /usr/share/polkit-1/actions/org.freedesktop.udisks.policy file. Look for - <action id="org.freedesktop.udisks2.filesystem-mount"> <description>M...

Re: Mounting Partition for all users

Hi, I had a similar problem and found the best solution was to edit some files in /usr/share/polkit-1/actions/ rather than try to set up fstab or folder permissions. This is similar to the thread "[SOLVED]Not ask password in Dolphin when it opens partitions", except I found that I needed t...

Re: can't reboot after suspend - resume problem

Solved: I found where the BIOS-CMOS battery was plugged into the motherboard, disconnected and then reconnected it, and now it works! Back to bios then grub and can boot into ubuntu successfully. I haven't been brave enough to try wheezy again - I see that if I go back into GNOME 3 I will need to ho...

Re: can't reboot after suspend - resume problem

Hi, CTL-ALT-F7 doesn't work - the keyboard doesn't seem to work at all. I think I'm going to need to do something at a hardware level - reset BIOS? change HDD? I really don't know. Another possibility is that the graphics has died at a hardware level and the new wheezy installation and attempt to re...

can't reboot after suspend - resume problem - SOLVED

Hi, I can't successfully reboot my laptop - it powers up straight to a blank screen with no bios screen or grub displayed (zareason verix 1656 - based on MSI 1656). It has always been unable to properly resume after suspend with various OS (ubuntu, mint, debian) as it would have a blank screen and u...

system clock and hwclock

I had a similar problem with a debian on a laptop install about a year ago, the time would be out even if I had set it on the last time I had booted, it turned out the bios clock wasn't being detected, and it was fixed reasonable easily. You can check to see if this is the same problem; as root #hwc...

esata external drive

hi, found this thread looking for a way to get my new external drive to work on gnome with it's esata connection - it worked ok with it's usb connection. I found a solution, so in case it helps: http://wygoda.net/making-linux-recognize-esata-drive-removable I'm using a new amd64 lenny install, gnome...

overloaded-fglrx

Hi overloaded, I recently dealt with an ati video card on a laptop . Using the debian packages I installed the fglrx-driver,fglrx-src, fglrx-glx, and then ran 'dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg' to select it as the driver. Initially I didn't bother creating the kernel module from the source package (fgl...

epson and libsane-extras

Hi, :!: updated June 2009 - fortunately this reply has now become obsolete as there are new drivers on the epson site (http://avasys.jp/hp/menu000000500/hpg000000442.htm), these now come as debian packages and seem to install without problems. I just ran into the same issue with an epson v200 scanne...

fuji mounting

Hi, fuji cameras should be automatically treated as a mass storage usb device under your setup (etch gnome) without any special configuration. I had no problems with a fuji 9600 on etch - gnome, it just automounted with an icon etc. Check the camera settings - camera on 'play' goto the setup menu, g...

gdm and icewm-session

Hi, I recently installed etch, I use gdm as the session manager, and found when I logged into icewm that some of my configuration files (in ~/.icewm) were not working. It seems that if icewm is started as 'icewm' instead of 'icewm-session', then some configuration files won't work (eg ~/.icewm/start...

Hi Lou, yes it worked! (I just needed to edit my default ~/.fluxbox/init so that the "session.keyFile" had my home directory rather than the system one) I have mainly used iceWM for the last year and will continue with it, but I notice fluxbox used in a number of small distros (eg DSL), so...

Thanks Lou,
I noticed your other article on fluxbox. Do you know of an equivalent keyboard shortcut to run a command in fluxbox?
I'm now using your tips for the windows key instead of ctrl+alt, and esc to get out of the taskbar cli; I hadn't known about either of those, thanks.

taskbar cli: Hi, thanks for the article, I found the "Alt-Ctrl-Space" key combination a good way of running apps, as it opens the taskbar cli with the cursor ready to type, and it means I can keep a single height taskbar. This is the relevant entry in preferences file # # KeySysAddressBar=...
