Re: Linux not good, caca!!

The fact that “it just works “ is one of the many things I love about Linux, even more so with Debian. With both Microsoft’s and Apples offerings (many issues with MS) corrupt downloaded data has been a regular issue and to top it off, win puts that data in a cache that will need deleted before one ...

Re: Broadcom wifi please help

Not that it is needed but I just wanted to say, "Awesome help fellas." On another note, OP you could plug-in a supported usb or ethernet to get things up and working. It would be a bit easier to get everything instaled. I must say, I am impressed with your die-hard commitment to this. I ho...

Can't find any solution :(
Just a couple of thoughts. Try a new clean user directory. Secondly, how is the health of your drive and partition? Any read/write errors? Smart status? LXDE mostly ignors user space Gnome configuration files.

Re: Worrying trend.

Myself I use to wish that everyone would see the magnificent OS i see when I look at GNU/Linux. Somehow I mistakenly thought that those people would do what everyone else who used the OS was doing. I thought that somehow a larger userbase would lead to better hardware support for Linux by the manufa...

Re: Worrying trend.

Of course inexperienced users should not be turned away, but that does not mean abandoning the philosophy UNIX-based systems are built upon; self-reliance. That does not mean being an expert. What it does mean is at least trying to find solutions: reading the documentation; if not understood or can...

Re: Enlightenment 18 on Debian Stable Deleted Why?

So, these days you have a newer libc6 from ubuntu installed on your system... The Libc6 upgrade is from Debian Jessie. If you use Debian Testing there's no need to upgrade libc6. And again FWIW my deb stable e18 is working just fine. Sorry to disappoint everyone  If we were talking instead o...

Re: Enlightenment 18 on Debian Stable Deleted Why?

So, these days you have a newer libc6 from ubuntu installed on your system... What are you going to do the next time you want to install another package from Debian stable on your system that thinks it should be using the older one? Think you wont be? Here is an easy example: Debian stable recieves ...

Re: Enlightenment 18 on Debian Stable Deleted Why?

Almost all of us here play on the edge at times for diferent reasons. Many times is just to check out some cool new feature in the latest program we favior. I remember a few years back braking my system over something stupid ... all for instant messaging. Unfortunantly using a difrent libc6 can real...

Re: Enlightenment 18 on Debian Stable Deleted Why?

stevepusser » 2014-03-13 04:32 xetaprime, are you available and willing to help anybody that has followed your guide and ended up with problems with their system? Can you remove and reinstall libc6-dev? Is my guide still up? I thought it was taken down. It did include a disclaimer so I figure, yeah...

Re: Enlightenment 18 on Debian Stable Deleted Why?

Note Debian's own statement so kindly provided by another caring soul earlier in this thread. Purely pedantic point: two souls; I pointed him to it... twice. I guess I just figured that someone of his vast experience and expertise didn't need to have it cut-and-paste for him. (Clearly I was mistake...

I mean you let people install unstable. Peace again, Xeta Stable, testing, unstable, extream edge, yep, but we dont mix them with eachother here either. Re: I am actually really interested in the new upcoming Ubun

I would have no problem with ubuntu if they would take the time to fix bugs properly before releasing it to the public as a "stable" release and contribute reasonably back to our community. Their stance is " We are making Linux popular and well known and that is our contribution to th...

Re: I am actually really interested in the new upcoming Ubun

Well, my point of view on this matter is slightly different: first of all, MSFT contributes to Linux, not Debian or GNU, and Linux becomes more and more commercial open source project with the distance from free software rising proportionally. Yes, Ubuntu is not contributing back, but Debian policy...

Re: I am actually really interested in the new upcoming Ubun

So in your opinion, is Ubuntu hurting Debian? Yes. Not to mention the rest of ( "OUR" ) GNU and Linux communities (ie. GNU/Linux looks to any new person using ubuntu just as bug ridden as any MS product. Something I have been proud to say is truely not the case and a value added reason fo...

Re: I am actually really interested in the new upcoming Ubun

As for Ubuntu, I am not interested in supporting a Microsoft wanna be. Heck, Microsoft even submits more Linux code back to our community than Ubuntu, very sad. As You probably know, that ~20'000 LoC's were submitted to better support Linux virtualisation on a Windows host. It's not that MSFT loves...
