Re: Adding another superuser to the kernel

If you wanna give a normal user that nightmare.... well up to you, this might be a route. I will limit myself to sudo if you do not mind... Is this want you really want? I guess this user will keep his own UID. https://linoxide.com/give-normal-user-root-privileges/ Method 1: Adding t...

Re: Why Only 5MB/s in USB or USB-WIFI transfers?

Why... the group that will run Linux on it is very small..... as most people wanna run Windows 10 and then you...

Agree, always check the logs. If you keep the original disk untouched it should be easy to find, but I wonder if such a data loss wil be logged?

Re: Documents folder gone (with three years of work...)

It's extremely unlikely upgrades would remove any personal data from your HOME. I agree... but it can happen... cannot go into too much details because of confidentiality, but someone updated an "office program".. and all kind of important templates were wiped from the Document folder ......

Re: Documents folder gone (with three years of work...)

Put at least your last backup on its place with the contents of that Document folder. If that's a problem, maybe Testdisk can find back your files. It is generally advised to make a clone from the problem hard disk where Document folder is on and do the recovery with that other disk. Stop working no...

I have, like a lot others, already for nearly 2 years my own VPN on a Raspberry Pi with Debian on it. A very nice manual how to realize this: https://www.zwiebelfam.nl/en/vpn-verbinding/ You have only once the cost of buying the RPi setup stuff and some very small amount of energy per moths as the R...

Re: roll back to last good boot on linux?

Try Foxclone. Look up its features. After a testing period it has gone live a few months ago. https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?p=1784922#p1784922 So far I've tried to backup or clone several OS, e.g Bunsenlabs , a Debian based distro (on my desktop) and Windows 10. Still need to test a bac...

I had a similar problem in 2011 while copying a lot of data on an installed Debian 6. Hardware : Asus E35M1-M Series with an AMD 350E CPU & 4 GB RAM. It was reproducible oo another system with exactly the same hardware. No RAM hardware problem, bios up to date. As in those days extra RAM was aff...

Re: A trivial question about UUIDs

We have the same situation since 2011: A primary server and a fail-over server. In principle it works great like that, indeed update your fstab etc. BUT: Suppose you would like to compare in de 1st computer this cloned disk... then realize that they have the same UUIDs.... So the system cannot disti...
