Re: Need help getting audio working on Intel miniPC

Did you ever install Wheezy and did sound work with it? I've recently installed Wheezy on my PPC Mini (2005) and sound wasn't working until I read I needed to remove the sound portion from the module/blacklist file. But upgrading to Jessie caused it not to work again and I haven't been able to sort ...

Sound : Aureal 3D Interactive Positional

I just received an old Compaq Presario 5140 machine, around 2003 model and installed Debian Sqeeze on it. Everything seems to be working except for the sound card, which I assume is an Aureal model. Is it possible to get this working? Looking at the alsa matrix, which show three models, I'm not sure...

I've tried Ubuntu a few times but I've always been a die hard Debian fan...though I did venture off for a time to use Mandriva, for printer reasons.

++1...I agree also. I've bought a few used desktops and laptops from ebay and no issues.

Re: Your reactions when you first tried GNU/Linux.

I used to read tech mags about Linux when it first came out, mid '90s...then around 2002 or so I tried Redhat 5 or whatever version was out. It was what I thought it would be at the time, but I enjoyed tinkering with it. I didn't try it until 2002 or so because I didn't have a decent enough system a...

Re: When Debian fails, what is your next distro of choice?

I have been a long time Debian user until around three years ago. I could never get my Brother AIO printer to print any pages, this is what made me switch distros. I chose Mandriva, because the rpm distros worked without any issues, including Fedora. Now recently things seems to be making a turn for...

Re: LOVING Debian

I will have to say Debian & Slackware works everytime when nothing else works! These two distros was my first that didn't give me problems when I started using Linux in the late '90s/early 2K. The so called easy distros back then gave me all kinds of hell during installation and/or after, distro...

Re: Lightweight Desktops

Gnome has always been one of my favorite DE, but then I wanted something lighter, which I went with LXDE once it came out. I have nothing against Xfce2 but I do not prefer it over lxde. Then i start using Fluxbox more, which I like but now I'm using Openbox more and more once I've configured it to m...

I can't run it on this machine I'm currently using but at work I did run the Gnome 3 Fedora 15 livecd, and I must say, it is a very nice and intuitive looking desktop. It looks really different and revolutionary. When I upgrade this machine memory, I should be able to run and will install it.
