Re: [O/S] Missing Package unattended-upgrades

Could you please check if apt-config-auto-update is installed, or /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/10periodic present? Neither is present. The unattended upgrades config file has two entries, one for the apt update trigger, and one for unattended upgrades. This was configurable in Gnome Software. What is the si...

Yes.
You can comment out the deb-src lines as well unless you wish to compile packages.

Re: [O/S] Missing Package unattended-upgrades

I just checked my VM of Debian Gnome installed from the latest DVD. unattended-upgrades is not installed. Which is a good thing IMO as I prefer to see what is proposed to be installed before allowing it.

Re: [SOLVED] Apt Upgrade shows errors and cannot complete upgrade

I have this exact problem. This discussion was hard to find, after I had been losing hours on this. I just did an "apt upgrade" from Debian 12.0. I don’t even know if my system is able to boot now. grub-install did work though, but not update-grub. root@canneberge:~# update-grub Generatin...

Re: [Software] Do I have to use the multimedia repo to get OBS with NVENC?

You could try the versions fro MX Linux testrepo. They are more recent than Bookworm and are compatible with Bookworm. I'm pretty sure I've seen posts on their forum saying they are built with NVENC support. Download obs-studio_30.0.0-0.1~mx23+2_amd64.deb and obs-plugins_30.0.0-0.1~mx23+2_amd64.deb...

Re: [Software] Do I have to use the multimedia repo to get OBS with NVENC?

Are you talking about deb-multimedia? It is not an official Debian repo. There a many reports of it breaking systems due to incompatible repos and tragic versioning. Do not enable it! Apparently OBS-Studio uses FFmpeg for encoding and the current version of it and libavcodec support NVENC. See this ...

Re: Gnome cannot start

Nvidia drivers are in non-free section, not contrib. I think the only thing in contrib is nvidia-settings. You need non-free and also non-free-firmware as firmware-misc-nonfree and firmware-nvidia-gsp are required. If you have those repos active, all that should be needed for GTX 1070 is apt install...

This is your camera: Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0408:4035 Quanta Computer, Inc. ACER HD User Facing Apparently there is no module for it in current kernels. You could try compiling a kernel module using this script - https://github.com/Giuliano69/uvc_driver-for-Quanta-HD-User-Facing-0x0408-0x4035-/blob/...

Re: Gnome cannot start

When is accurrded this issue I have downloaded and installed last available kernel and last available Nvidia driver for my device. That's not what I advised to do at all. At the GRUB boot menu, select Advanced Options and there should be an older kernel available which should work, probably 6.1.0-2...

See - viewtopic.php?t=159160

You should be able to boot an older kernel for normal functionality until the new nvidia-driver is available.

Re: [Software] Failure to load kernel modules

As far as I can make sense of it, there was no install candidate for the gpu driver for the new kernel, so it was removed without replacement. But that is only my mostly uneducated guess. A log file is mentioned next to the error message (/var/lib/dkms/nvidia-current/470.223.02/build/make.log). Sin...

Re: [Software] glib2.0 security update

Apparently there is a fixed package waiting for approval in security upgrades. If you can't wait, {from the bug report linked above) temporarily downgrade by: apt install libglib2.0-dev:amd64=2.74.6-2 libglib2.0-bin:amd64=2.74.6-2 libglib2.0-dev-bin:amd64=2.74.6-2 libglib2.0-0:amd64=2.74.6-2 libglib...

Re: [Software] Failure to load kernel modules

So the nvidia driver is not available or loaded for that kernel. Kernel 5.10.0-29 was installed by unattended-upgrades on 2024-05-07. There may have been an error building the nvidia module for that kernel. One of the disadvantages of unattended-upgrades is you don't get to see errors if they occur;...

Re: [Software] Failure to load kernel modules

Kernel 5.10.0-29-amd64 was a Bullseye security update 3 days ago. Possibly the nvidia module did not build correctly. Check your log in var/log/apt/history.log System info would be helpful. Post: inxi -CGSxxz inxi may need to be installed. Also show apt list -i linux-image-amd64 linux-headers-amd64
