The key to any solution is "what is the bandwidth you are paying for via your Internet provider?"
Also, 15m cable length has no effect upon bandwidth. Of course, CAT5 cable is maxed at 100mb/sec while CAT5e is maxed at 1gb/sec and CAT6 at 10gb/sec.

Re: How to limit server/Apache access to our team?
White listing countries won't work because user agent data can be spoofed easily. Htpasswd is good but open to man-in-the-middle attacks because form info is sent unencrypted. The unwanted traffic you are getting is probably failed logins? I would: Blacklist TOR browsers. Limit login attempts to 3, ...

Re: [MATE] Applet positions on panel change with resolution
I guess my question is why the need to change resolutions? I've been using Sid w/ Mate for 2 years on my laptop, setup how I want it and never change the resolution.

Re: which folder for html applications
For security reasons it still may be best to install apache and put the web apps in a /www or /public_html dir. That would eliminate the need for file sharing too. Else javascript could be used to do nasty things to the system.

If the folder is storing .deb packages then put them in a folder in your /home/username.
If shared with other users on a LAN then put them in a shared directory.

Running Apache? Check its error log or error.log in site root if Apache is configured to write a log there. Also check the mysql log(s).

Why not just automatically mount it using /etc/fstab at boot instead of using gnome-disks?

It should get the country code from the router automatically. AFAIK you must not be connected to the wlan to change the country code.

Best to always do an install while connected by an ethernet cable so you can later connect and download the needed packages to get all hardware working.

Why do you even need a display manager? Haven't used one in 15 years. Just use startx or startx && exit to get to gui.

Re: VNC/SSH to home blocked from work
Most likely the work firewall disallows direct connections to IP addresses and requires fully qualified domain names only. I have run into this situation before. You'll need to use a service like no-ip or another dynamic dns service to be able to connect.

How did you install libdvdcss2 ?
If use Deb Multimedia repository you will get the updated version of VLC and its dependencies and probably won't have any issues playing dvds.

Therefore; saying the web-browser is not supposed to open automatically, is incorrect in this situation. It is supposed to, to show you the connection page for the network, so you can finish connecting. However, this is not happening on Debian and as such, I can't connect to free WiFi- only WiFi or...

How are you trying to connect? Network Manager? If so, use it to connect. Then manually open the browser. The browser is not supposed to open automatically.
