My recent thoughts are that since Debian uses mdadm for RAID, it doens't need these files.

Can anyone second this opinion?

Do a google search on .Xresources. You can control the emacs font from there.

As to why your font changed, that's a bit more difficult to answer.

I need a file system that has a large size (50GB or more) that both Windows and Linux can read/write.

It's been a while since I tried compiling for a video player and I recently tried to compile mplayer and was shocked that both xvid and opendivx could not be found on mplayer's site.

Does anyone know what has happened, more importantly, can I still get these codecs?

Would you know how GTK 1 works regarding fonts? It looks like /etc/gtk/gtk.iso-8859-1 took preference over my .gtkrc file.

Can anyone point me on how Gnome and GTK settings work? I tried modifying my .gtkrc file but it gets overwritten by the time I login.

I'm trying to control the size of the fonts for GTK 1. Currently, I have used programs such as gtk-theme-switch to do this but the settings are never saved.

If anybody can point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the help. Currently, I have thre vfat partitions since vfat has a limitation of 40GB (give or take). Because I find it annoying to have multiple partitions, I really don't like this but I suppose this is the only thing that'll be sufficient for what I do since M$ won't allow any other FS ...

Should be fine.

Installing devices won't be as easy as the other distros. You'll have to work a bit hard no it.

A good example of this might be the printer installation. The modem and monitor should go fairly easy.

In the sources.list file, change all words that say stable to unstable.

Also comment out the security.debian.org line because unstable doesn't have such repository.

Start out with vsftpd.

Purge and do a reinstall.

The base package for Apache should suffice for now.

Which desktop are you using? I'm sure you need to install the appropriate packages to get this to work correctly.
