I'm happy with the Fritz!WLAN USB Stick AC 860, uses Mediatek mt7662 driver.

Re: Why do you use debian?
I've been using Debian GNU/Linux on and off since Bo, lately running as VMware Fusion or Parallels virtual machines on Macs. That doesn't suit me any longer since Apple's switch to the ARM64 architecture because my favourite programming language/environment Chez Scheme hasn't been ported to ARM64 (y...

Re: Firewall mess
A confusing firewall mess indeed, caused by the inaccurate claim that Debian Buster is using nftables by default. It isn't, witness the fact that the nftables package isn't even installed by default. There may be good reasons for having this "halfway house" construction of an nftables back...

Re: Install on Macbook Air 7,1 does not detect internal SSD
It seems that your MBA takes the same NVMe drives as my old model 2014 Mac Mini. I recently converted that Mac Mini to take a regular Samsung 250GB EVO 970 NVMe drive, using a zero-length adapter for the slightly different m2-implementation by Apple, see also the discussion at https://forums.macrumo...

...but I like to decide for myself when to upgrade packages (with Aptitude) and whether or not to put my computer to sleep or hibernation. Disabling the related systemd entries and packages in Buster (with Gnome) takes too much effort in my view, but I've finally managed to do it. Now, there's one p...

Re: iwlwifi tricks
Yes, iwlwifi can be tricky! My own Intel 7260 AC WLAN card is a case in point, for which the iwlwifi-7260-9.ucode firmware packaged with the current 3.16 kernel does not work optimally. Specifically, Power Management cannot be turned off, resulting in terrible lag when there is little network throug...

Re: Irritating New Package message in Aptitude
Yes, sorry, forgot to mention that I run mixed testing/Sid and this libgnutls26 package was listed a couple of months ago as a recommended install, not a dependency. I've been playing around a bit more since posting about this, and finally decided to resort to that old trick: use apt-get to purge th...

[Solved]Irritating New Package message in Aptitude
I have a persistent problem in Aptitude: the "libgnutls26" package always shows as a New Package when opening Aptitude. This package is installed (and shows as such with "i"); I can let it disappear from the New Package listing by hitting "f", yet it reappears when open...

Re: Installing Debian on Mac Yosemite thru Parallels Desktop
Well, that's the beauty of a virtual machine, it is a PC executed in software. The Debian installer thinks that there is a disk and wants to partition it, but it's all make-believe. You should let the Debian installer go ahead and partition that virtual disk, it will not affect your running of OS X....

Re: Installing Debian on Mac Yosemite thru Parallels Desktop
My goal is to run Debian inside a virtual machine in Parallels Desktop 10. I do not want to create a dual boot system. I want the computer to continue to boot up in OS X and only use Debian from inside Parallels. But then, from your description, you proceed to install Debian as if intended for dual...

Re: Intel Wireless AC 7260 varying speeds[SOLVED]
It turns out that the Intel firmware, currently iwlwifi-7260-9.ucode in testing/Sid, is the problem. Version 10 is already available from https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/users/drivers/iwlwifi , but requires kernel 3.17 or later. Version 12 is available from [url]git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linu...

Intel Wireless AC 7260 varying speeds[SOLVED]
I'm using this WiFi card in a headless Linux file server running testing/Jessie with the iwlwifi module and iwlwifi-7260-9.ucode firmware. Transfer of large files on my WLAN is quick and reliable, no problems there. The iwconfig command shows link quality 70/70 and signal strength -37dBm, you won't ...

No sweat. BTW, you did well to draw attention to http://www.rodsbooks.com, a fine resource for this type of topic, e.g. the rEFInd boot manager.

Re: Debian vs. UEFI Secure Boot
The OP is somewhat dated and misleading -- the ability to disable Secure Boot is part of the UEFI specification and it is perfectly possible to create your own Secure Boot keys and signed bootloaeder & kernel image so there is no need to rely on either the shim project or Microsoft's licence fe...

Re: RTL8723BE WiFi Adapter Drivers
You'll have to wait for kernel >= 3.15, see also http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.linux.network/302776.
You could also try to compile your own rtl8237be.ko module, but that would require some more googling...

Re: [Revised]HOWTO: AMD64 Debian GNU/Linux and UEFI
Well, you're running testing/Jessie or Sid, while this HOWTO is about switching stable/Wheezy from BIOS to UEFI afterwards... So, may be you should check bug reports for a solution to your problems. FWIW, I installed AMD64 testing/Jessie a few days ago in a VMware VM with firmware = "efi" ...

Re: [Revised]HOWTO: AMD64 Debian GNU/Linux and UEFI
I can't reproduce your error messages, and I don't know what they mean... I have just revised the entire HOWTO to reflect the current state of affairs w.r.t. UEFI booting Debian GNU/Linux. The good news is that the current AMD64 version of the D-I for testing (Jessie) boots and installs on a P...

Re: Boot problems AMD64 testing in VMware VM
Well, I did do a check of sorts because I used bugreport for this. First off, I wanted to file this bug against the current kernel in testing, because that's what most users installing with the D-I will experience. Then I was presented with a long list of open bugs against this kernel, and spent som...

Re: Boot problems AMD64 testing in VMware VM
[H]ave you tested with 3.13-trunk-amd64 to see if the bug is still alive? No I haven't, I'll leave that to the kernel maintainers to sort out... Consider my post more a heads-up to other users considering installing Jessie in a VMware Fusion VM. BTW, I noticed that the open-vm-tools packa...
