Re: grub failed to install - upgrade
I don't know where FreeBSD comes from since this machine never had that OS. I use FreeBSD on another machine. This thing about the grub is simply a mystery to me. I used the net image of Debian 12 on a USB to install Debian and no, I don't use that USB anymore. Thanks for looking into my troubles. S...

Re: grub failed to install - upgrade
Please report the output of inxi -SM . You may need to install the package, depending on which desktop you are using. Also, apologies if I've overlooked something, but how are you able to run the commands shown above? Are you booting by some mechanism other than Grub? grub screen https://i.postimg....

Re: grub failed to install - upgrade
It seems your boot disk is not /dev/sda. You are upgrading a computer where you installed the i386 architecture. Is it a bare metal installation or a VM ? no this is 64 architecture. Below it's very interesting tho job@luna:~$ apt-show-versions grub grub not installed (not available) job@luna:~$ su...

[Hardware] Expand the swap partition (SOLVED)
Hello forum, My apologies if this has been answered here before. A swap partition is 1G I would like to expand it to 20G. In the past I used Gparted live but it seems Debian no longer allows details of the drive to show in Gparted because of ufs. I was able to show those details with gnome-disks. An...

[Software] nouveau vz nvidia
Good people,
After staying away from Debian for so long, I have to say I am very happy with 12. The nouveau driver seems to be doing everything I want from the box, I am not really missing the nvidia driver. Is there anything I am missing by not using the nvidia driver?

Re: For how many years have you been using GNU/Linux?
My journey started in the late 90s, 1998 or 1999 with Redhat > Mandrake > Ubuntu > Debian > Devuan (you know why) + FreeBSD. Side note: a friend last week told me that his Windows 10 does not boot. The fan goes crazy and he does not get a login screen. Right there I can see a new conversion. This du...

Re: unbelievable whats on manjaro website!
Has anyone been affected by a virus or malware on Linux? I started using Linux (RedHat) either in 1998 or 1999 and I never had a virus or malware. Post 3 by Bloom says it all and I feel the same way. There are various Linux installations within the same distro. Some people boot from portable drives,...

Re: Ordered my first Raspberry Pi with Debian Raspbian! :D
This is a good thread for an ignorant like me as I am debating using a Pie 3 or a Odroid HC2 as a media server. Anybody here can give me a strip down contrast of these two? I can read other posts online but I would like the opinion of someone here who knows a little about both products. I have an ol...
