Re: For how many years have you been using GNU/Linux?

My journey started in the late 90s, 1998 or 1999 with Redhat > Mandrake > Ubuntu > Debian > Devuan (you know why) + FreeBSD. Side note: a friend last week told me that his Windows 10 does not boot. The fan goes crazy and he does not get a login screen. Right there I can see a new conversion. This du...

Re: unbelievable whats on manjaro website!

Has anyone been affected by a virus or malware on Linux? I started using Linux (RedHat) either in 1998 or 1999 and I never had a virus or malware. Post 3 by Bloom says it all and I feel the same way. There are various Linux installations within the same distro. Some people boot from portable drives,...

Re: Ordered my first Raspberry Pi with Debian Raspbian! :D

This is a good thread for an ignorant like me as I am debating using a Pie 3 or a Odroid HC2 as a media server. Anybody here can give me a strip down contrast of these two? I can read other posts online but I would like the opinion of someone here who knows a little about both products. I have an ol...

Re: "A stop job is running"

I use slim That project is dead upstream and does not support systemd login sessions, try a different display manager. GDM is probably the best, or no DM at all. EDIT: pressing <ctrl>+<alt>+<delete> seven times in two seconds will force a reboot. I noted all you wrote but should a package/software ...

Re: "A stop job is running"

Something tells me that anyone who uses a box with systemd is bound to have this issue. I use slim and I have that problem. It did not really bother me until last night when I had to go to bed and systemd was owning my box and my time. After so many years I will have to dab with coding issues? I am ...

As I am contemplating moving to either FreeBSD or Devuan completely. FreeBSD reminds of Woody or Sarge.

Re: So, IBM acquires Red Hat.

The tin-foil hat wearing conspiracy theorist nutcases will be all over this news like a rash and anybody they can manage to convince with their drivel will want to use sysvinit because that is the One True Init System, or something. Indeed, I'm getting a few chuckles out of this thread already. The...

Re: aptitude kaput at my end

if you're running Debian testing instead of a release, you should make that clear in the first sentence or title of your first post; not leave it to be discovered ten posts in. I assume you're running a released version in the absence of that information. Not everyone is going to have read every si...

Re: aptitude kaput at my end

Since everyone else that's running Stretch doesn't have your problem, I find it very hard to believe that you don't have a broken system. You installed packages from Debian testing or Sid on Stretch--is that true or not? Sorry to disappoint but since I upgraded from Stretch to Buster I haven't play...
