Re: Wheezy totem/minitube no mp4 playback

Just chiming in to say I have had the same problem; didn't notice it at first since I haven't played vids for a while. I run a Sid desktop and a Wheezy laptop (both using GNOME). Both these systems played MP4's fine back in November. I noticed a big change in Totem when I next updated, and it's been...

Re: requesting feedback on my CORPORATE firewall howto

Hey dude,

Just checking out your build again, since you've updated it ^^ Just spent like 2 days scouring the internet for the fix re:transparent squid mentioned above >< Wish I'd checked here first!

Hope you're well. Good job!

To the OP: I think I acheived an install with nearly everything the OP wants.. with XFCE.. nice & fast, and my PC's 5 years old. And I didn't even bother to use readme's.. every time I had a question... deb forums had an answer. Though, of course, I've been using linux since 1999, and in the las...

I could be wrong.. but the original BASH was written in the late 70's in the Bell Labs... and many of those other commands mentioned are relics from a time long gone by... I havent looked, but I wonder if the FSF & GNU were around pre-1980? [feel free to correct me] Just a thought.. In regards t...

There are absolutely HEAPS of readmes, documents, tutorials, books you can download etc on the web for this.. 100 hours is not a very large amount of time, particularly if you have no programming experience. I know you probably won't like this answer - but imho, pretty much nothing beats QBasic for ...

I ended up writing my own, utilising ipfm. Security doesn't really bother me.. most, if not all, of the people here don't really have enough nous to even bother doing that - and if they did, all that would happen is they'll be stealing bandwidth that someone else has paid for :P So at the end of the...

Net server: MAC filtering & Bandwidth count..

Scenario : I live at a 'trailer park' out the back of NZ somewhere, which has a satellite connection, which is costing a bucket. The reason for this is (I believe) unrestricted access has been given to all the residents via a couple of wireless access points. This is about to change. I have just set...

Yo, Drokmed! I built a server today following your little recipe here - imho its a great piece of work! That must've taken quite a bit of effort, I reckon. I notice you haven't finished it, and last published an update June last year. I just want to encourage you to finish it if and when you get tim...

:P Some of these replies are simply taking the mickey.. though I have to ask.. the OP seems a little bit like a goad to me. I've built and/or repaired over 10,000 pc's in the last 5 years.. Computers die. I'd be interested to know how you think it is your CPU that is fried.. I've seen fried CPU's, a...

basic multi-thread program chewing cpu time bigtime..

OK, the premise is I wanted to start learning multi-thread programming, so I made a little test program.. and I've noticed it starts to chew cpu cycles like crazy.. even though it is very very simple. Its also slightly unstable, but I read that was inherent in Xlib. basically, I have a thread that c...

Looking for partners for Heroes clone I am making...

Sup. I am going to shamelessly advertise here that I am looking for people to program with :D I have a Heroes-type game that I started making one week when I was bored, its reasonably functional, but currently restricted to 2-players, with text-based gfx. And still has a few bugs I havent looked at ...

when you dpkg -i linux-etc, it should have given you some messages about having incorporated itself into grub.

you can easily see if it was installed by going into aptitude and checking the "obsolete or locally created packages" directory.

LOL.. I had the time, so thought I'd look at the site and sketch up a new front-end.

But NO WAY! Its appearance is perfect, IMHO.

PS. Slackware.com is just a big wall of text. Way not appealing at all.
