VNC client that can access a mac?
Does anyone know of a VNC client that can access a mac (OS X 10.6)? When I try Vinagre, I get the message: Authentication method to host <ip address> is unsupported. (30) I think I've read that Vinagre does not support access to macs. FYI the mac is running the vnc server that comes with OS X (I don...

Re: esata hd prevents boot
The problem I've been having may be related to the existence of a 'Virtual CD' partition on the hard drive. This area contains software that Toshiba supplies with the drive. I thought I had gotten rid of this stuff when I reformatted the drive, but apparently I have not. If I can figure out how, I'm...

Re: esata hd prevents boot
Adding LABELs and UUIDs to all the drives in /etc/fstab doesn't have any effect. Is there something that's read earlier in the boot process that might be relevant?

Re: esata hd prevents boot
Thanks, that make sense. Is there a file that specifies the bootloader line? The only GRUB management tool I've found so far is Startup-Manager, and that doesn't appear to support specifying the bootloader line.

esata hd prevents boot
I'm having a problem with an external esata hard drive. If I boot the system with the drive connected and powered up, the system will not boot. However, if I turn the external drive on after the system is already running, I can mount it manually with no problem. Details: I'm running lenny in a fairl...

Thanks.
Out of curiousity: why is this in backports? I thought lenny was the most current version of debian?

mercurial 1.1.* on lenny?
Is mercurial 1.1.* available for lenny? If so, how do I get it? I currently have 1.0.1-5.1 installed. This is the only version that synaptic shows.

Does HFS+ driver support writing?
At one time, the HFS+ driver did not supported writing, unless HFS+ journaling was disabled (a risky business). Is this still the case? (The hfsplus package page, http://packages.debian.org/source/lenny/hfsplus, doesn't appear to say.)

I have kermels 2.6.18-6-amd64, 2.6.26-1-amd64, and 2.6.26-2-amd64 installed . 2.6.26-2-amd64 is the new one installed yesterday and unlike the other two, it has no nvidia module. When I went from etch -> lenny, there must have been a new nvidia module available. The aptitude search confirms this: # ...

I've been using standard kernels. I should probably try re-installing the nvidia driver first. Does the new kernel required a a new version of the nvidia driver? And why does replacing the kernel make it necessary to reinstall a driver? I thought that the nvidia driver was a kernel module? Does the ...

Lenny update killed gdm/nvidia driver: who's the culprit?
Yesterday a there were a number of updated packages for Lenny. One of them apparently killed my nvidia driver and made gdm completely inoperable (after a reboot). I had to boot to single user mode and screw around xorg.conf files to get my system back to a usable state. Does anyone know which packag...

WHICH repositories for a 'nomal' lenny system?
I'm getting ready to upgrade etch -> lenny and I'm faced with the same problem I ran into installing etch (my first debian system): it is not at all clear which repositories I need for a 'normal' system. Can Nvidia TwinView support two different resolutions?
I just got a 24" monitor with 1920x1200 resolution. I'd like to keep using my old 17" in TwinView mode. Is it possible to do this? If so, could someone post a sample xorg.conf? With my current xorg.conf (below), I can get both monitors to work only if the resolution (set via the gnome scre...
