Re: Who is using old laptops, thanks to linux?

^ oh, it has dual graphics.
how's that working? do you need to tell it which gpu to use?

when you played the example videos, did you get the impression that the cpu is taking the brunt, or does it offload to one of the gpus?

Re: Computer freezes and crashes.

the laptop is almost 10 years old, so checking for dust in the fan or hardware fatigue does make sense. in your dmesg i searched for "error" and came up with this: [ 0.844177] tpm_tis 00:06: 1.2 TPM (device-id 0xB, rev-id 16) [ 0.924230] tpm tpm0: [Hardware Error]: Adjusting reported timeo...

Re: Installing git-all purges almost everything

Wow, good job. You do know what apt install git-all does, right? that is one weird package! this is on debian stable (albeit without a gui): sudo apt -s install git-all Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done The following additional packages ...

anyhoo, the worst side effect will probably be an influx of "Help! i installed linux on windows and it dioesn't work! URGENT!" threads.

Re: installing a testing package emacs25 corrupts at totally

And the poetry (trolling?) lies in the freestyle discussions. For example, you say that you don't understand the thread and ask questions for which you probably already know the answer. It is poetic because you don't control yourself when loading discussions with feelings. so by op's own admission ...

Re: Who is using old laptops, thanks to linux?

I purposely bought an older refurbished old road warrior laptop, a 2012 Dell Latitude E6430 with a few character scars to install a Linux system. This thing is metal and solid ! Under the hood: a dual core i5 with 16GB RAM and a 250 GB SSD drive. you put that SSD in there? i am currently hunting fo...

isn't even the slowest SSD much faster than even the fastest USB connection?
in other words, isn't this a waste of a perfectly good (and brand new) SSD?

Re: Log file keeps creating in home directory

must be some software that you use.
maybe:

Code: Select all

apt-file search mktexpk
texlive-binaries: /usr/bin/mktexpk
???

have you tried configuring that software to not "miss fonts"?
have you tried installing those "missing fonts"?

Checkboxes would be simpler. feel free to implement them. now i have a lot of strong & pointless expletives sitting right on the tip of my tongue, especially for you. but seriously: if you really consider implementing that into the debian installer, really think about actually coding it, and in...

I think the problem is way deeper than capitalism, or unfair distribution of wealth. Technology gives the "feeling of power". Even a lowest person (by any measure; income, political influence, sexual appeal) can "feel that they can do stuff and have power over things" on a mobil...

^ true dat. or go to the shop and pretend like you want to buy something, then leave and order online  that's strange. this page (price range 10 to 50 euro, cheapest first) suggests otherwise, if "6in" means 6 inch. I admit I never remember about Amazon. I'll take a look. that's e...

Re: eBook Reader or Tablet

The used devices I've found are either too small (under 5 inches of reading area) or nearly as expensive as off the shelf products, which makes no sense, no matter what condition the items may be in. that's strange. this page (price range 10 to 50 euro, cheapest first) suggests otherwise, if "...
