Re: Gnu/Linux desktops-windows managers RAM ShoWDowN
^ New rule if you have 6 million gigs of RAM and 3 ssd's, don't bother posting (jealous.) :) This machine is over 10 years old with 4GB RAM. I promise not to post results from my newer i5/16GB one. @Sunrat have toyed with getting an ssd for this old thing, they're getting cheap nowadays but ...

Re: Started migration to buster and gave up
And we told you that adding NetRunner was a bad idea  thanks, but I can think by myself and have not to agreed with you neccesarily, Netrunner Core (buster) is just a great idea, I queried repositories, and they dont use of their own, they're just pointing to debian sources... dude :?.. I've tried to send screenshots, but I get an internal server error every time. :( It's already been mentioned several times, attachments doesn't work on this forum. Upload your image to an image hosting site like Imgur, Pasteimage, or imgbb, and copy the image url here between tags. The version I i...

Re: Running Dolphin from pkexec in Buster XFCE
Edit: whoops, I linked to the older version without pkexec. Try this one instead: http://mxrepo.com/mx/repo/pool/main/r/rootactions-servicemenu/ Wow, that even works in siduction! Icons and everything. You're a magician, Stevo. 8) I tried yesterday after reading this thread and got Dolphin to open ...

Re: idea for a backup tool
I back up HOME and other data with rsync. It can be scheduled with systemd timer or cron. Also do a regular full backup of root partition with Clonezilla so I can recover a total meltdown in a few minutes.. In this case, and I just did it yesterday: I backed up my home directory , rsync -ravh /home/...

wget is the best. But if you want a GUI and use KDE, KGet is good. Otherwise see other answers.

Re: which Debian do you use most often?
I'm a Fake Debian User as well. I use siduction and have used it and predecessors for 11 years now. siduction is sid with a custom kernel and a few nifty tools added. I swore I was going to switch to Buster and have it installed in multi-boot and running sweetly, but KDE Plasma 5.15 is still nicer t...

... I can't remember the command off the top of my head but I remember it saying it reset the networking and I was thinking it just like shut things down and brought them back up. Re: DNS Changing By Itself
@sunrat, the OP is using static addresses so dhclient won't be invoked. Aaah ok, thanks. I had a similar problem with trying to set an alternate DNS but my system uses DHCP. PS. I just found out how to do it with static IP from the first hit on a Startpage search. I won't spill the beans as BuGz wa...

Set it in /etc/dhcp/dhclient.conf. Here's mine for OpenDNS and a couple of others as fallback:
I just added that line to the end of the file.

Shakespeare would be proud. Such a moving tale of tragedy and woe with splashes of comic relief. No-one died though.

Re: New SSD
Please take the time to correctly configure SSD trim on your machine or your performance will go down over time: https://wiki.debian.org/SSDOptimization None of that matters much with recent model SSDs. Any reason why you keep running debian wheezy on a non server machine? Debian Stretch and soon B...

Re: Plasma + Buster (where)?
@bluepill you got that quote wrong, I didn't write that last line. You probably don't realise that bester69 is a regular provider of comic relief in the forums. He often posts how he did something differently from the recommended way, such as using foreign repos or packages, and managed to not break...

No problems with Startpage here and I use it a lot.

Re: "You've got to be kidding me."
I hear life (and profits) is tough in the TV business these days. Maybe they can't afford web devs to code HTML video.
