Re: [O/S] All files in folder deleted when moving single file with WinSCP

Why are you using winSCP at all? Maybe just install an SSH server to the Windows system or use Samba?

Re: Is it worth changing vfs_cache_pressure

On older slower more memory challenged hardware, i/e (core two duo and 4g of RAM and a spinner wih a swap partition) it can improve performance under heavy loads in conjunction with swappiness settings. On the other hand, I'm actually not sure of it's effect on big modern systems with say multiple V...

Re: Command not found in Gnome Wayland

A continuing issue with nvidia and kms. I don't know of anyone who has a reliable fix yet. A lot of stuff that should auto-work with xwayland doesn't with nvidia.

Have run gnome since Jessie. Versatile and fast and fewer software compatibility quirks. With Debian stable zero DE issues. My preferred Debian DE.

Re: Which is the worst distribution you have tried?

My distro hopping ended with Debian Jessie. I follow some other distros and run a few just for my own enjoyment and information; like Bunsen, Devuan, and LMDE but otherwise stick with Debian gnome stable. My first Linux was Suse in the Windows 2000 era after which I switched to Kubuntu for several y...

Re: [Software] What applications use fsync the most in gnome

The first output shows the files in red, which indicates that the symlink target does not exist. Is that the case for live-tools.service in your system? live-tools does not show in red but rsync does though it is not installed to my system either, again a common mirror tool. This is a hung attempte...

Re: [Software] What applications use fsync the most in gnome

Continuing on: eatmydata is not installed to my system, and though live-tools is reported as a running systemd service it is not installed either. From the bootstrap log dpkg made 5 different fsync calls all successfully completed. In the end after endless attempts to run eatmydata which is not inst...

[Software] What applications use fsync the most in gnome

I am getting an inordinate amount of eatmydata calls for what seems like no reason during boot slowing my boot times substantially. What software calls for fsync the most? I have yet to find the culprit. Bullseye gnome system.

Re: [Software] QEMU not working

1) Your file path is incorrect in the first Windows install image you posted. Open file explorer and find the file first and its correct path.
2) Create a qemu/kvm disk to install Debian to first.

Try: x86_64

Otherwise since you are installing Windows to Windows use hyper-v, better features for that configuration.

Re: Noob asking about DE's

Desktop environments work the best, are the least buggy, and have the most unique features on Linux distros where they are the default choice of the build. Examples as follows: Debian stable: Gnome with wayland Linux Lite: XFCE Mint or LMDE: Cinnamon Bunsen Labs: Openbox WM KDE Neon or Kubuntu: KDE ...

Re: [Off-Topic] look what microsoft just gave me :)

https://mvp.microsoft.com/en-us/pages/mvp-award-update Pushing 5000 now. The Linux in hyper-v and the other Linux categories are kinda funny since most of development was done for free by Linux developers and ripped off by MS developers who got paid. The culture remains ugly regardless of claims of ...

Re: [Software] Microsoft Defender for Endpoint (MDATP) on Debian 11

https://debian.pkgs.org/11/microsoft-prod-amd64/mdatp_101.52.57.amd64.deb.html Scroll down the link and look at the Debian depends list. Hardening Debian does not require any additions from outside Debian stable packaging, and MS endpoint stuff is still a pain with SSL and proxies. I think all this...

Re: [Industry] Last Pass system compromised

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LastPass Not something I ever thought was good enough to be proprietary in the first place. Typical bad idea just for convenience sake. Probably a lot more holes in bigger private networks than so far exploited, and probably a useable ramp through/into better more secu...

Your computer has either fallen into some kind of time/space anomaly, or been captured by some sort of covert mathematics tutorial. Reduce the numbers and check the ratios. Much like the spy balloons could be aliens too.
